Job Summary
The OSU -Cascades campus is seeking an Information Technology Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.
This position is located in Bend, Oregon.
The IT Manager for OSU -Cascades serves as the operational liaison between the OSU -Cascades campus and UIT . This position is responsible for aligning local IT services with university-wide technology standards while ensuring they meet the unique instructional, research, administrative, and growth-related needs of OSU -Cascades.
The IT Manager provides leadership in planning, implementing, and managing campus-specific IT operations, infrastructure, and customer support services. This includes overseeing daily IT operations, coordinating support for faculty, staff, and students, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality technical solutions. The manager plays a key consultative role, offering guidance on technology integration, innovation, and continuous improvement in service delivery.
In close partnership with the UIT Service Desk, central IT teams, and campus stakeholders, the IT Manager leads the OSU -Cascades IT team, manages staff performance, and ensures efficient use of resources to support campus priorities. This role is critical in supporting the university's teaching, research, and institutional growth mission.
This position reports to the Director of the UIT Service Desk, with a dotted line to the Chief Business Officer at Cascades, and works collaboratively with both campus and central IT leadership.
As a member of the OSU IT community, this position contributes to the collective mission of supporting Oregon State University's teaching, research, outreach, and administrative excellence through technology. Under the leadership of University Information & Technology ( UIT ), the university's central IT organization, the OSU IT community is a collaborative ecosystem made up of distributed IT professionals embedded within colleges, research, and administrative units.
Together, OSU IT professionals work in partnership to align technology solutions, share expertise, and deliver secure, effective, and innovative digital experiences that enable the university's strategic goals. As part of this community, this position plays a key role in advancing OSU's technology priorities while supporting the unique needs of OSU -Cascades.

Key Responsibilities
IT Consultation and Coordination (30%)
Act as a liaison between OSU -Cascades and UIT departments to fulfill customer requests and deliver technical solutions using existing OSU technology.
Coordinate with UIT to develop, plan, and support technology investments in spaces for students and staff, both in and out of the classroom.
Provide IT input for long-range campus development plans.
In coordination with UIT , ensure contractors uphold network standards and provide documentation while maintaining proper physical and virtual data access.
Serve as the liaison for campus-wide technology initiatives, policy, outages, and operating processes.
Escalate unresolved problems to the appropriate UIT team and apply skills to areas beyond OSU -Cascades if workload allows.
Consult on IT challenges faced by the OSU -Cascades community.
Manage and collaborate on IT-related projects, providing organizational change management ( OCM ) support for the OSU -Cascades community.
Meet regularly and coordinate with OSU -Cascades leadership, faculty, staff, and other OSU -Cascades stakeholders.
Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding with Human Resources.
Maintain expert knowledge of desktop operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Manage the budget and scheduling for all computer and peripheral replacements for all Faculty, Staff and shared computer resources at OSU -Cascades.
Monitor, track, inform, and report on budges; reconcile and/or move funds across units in conjunction with the IT Director in Corvallis with a dotted line to the Chief Business Officer at Cascades
Serve as subject matter expert for technical issues facing OSU -Cascades.
Management of OSU -Cascades IT Team (30%)
Provide leadership and oversight for the OSU -Cascades on-site IT team, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and professional development.
Establish and maintain a high-performing, service-oriented team culture that reflects the values of collaboration, accountability, and inclusivity.
Direct daily operations by monitoring service requests, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely resolution of incidents and requests.
Oversee ticketing system queues and reporting metrics, ensuring accurate documentation and consistent follow-through on service commitments.
Promote knowledge sharing, documentation standards, and clear communication across the team and with campus stakeholders.
Serve as the primary point of coordination with UIT Business Architecture to ensure alignment in service delivery, user support practices, and escalation protocols.
Meet regularly with the Chief Business Officer on campus-related matters, including but not limited to HR issues, budget updates and resource utilization changes.
Customer Service and Technical Support (30%)
Deliver responsive, on-site IT support for faculty, staff, students, and administrators at OSU -Cascades, including:
Urgent classroom technology support in collaboration with UIT Academic Technology.
Meeting and event space support, including presenter walk-throughs, live troubleshooting, and AV coordination.
Installation, configuration, and maintenance of computing hardware, printers, peripherals, and end-user software.
Ensure appropriate asset lifecycle management, including coordination with OSU Surplus for disposal of retired equipment and inventory tracking.
Oversee phone installations and replacements in collaboration with OSU Telecom.
Coordinate with external vendors and UIT Network Operations for network cabling changes, hardware upgrades, and diagnostic work.
Provide after-hours response and coordination for urgent issues affecting campus-wide IT infrastructure, including network and critical facilities systems. Collaborate with OSU -Cascades Facilities and UIT teams to ensure continuity of operations.
Collaboration with UIT Service Desk (10%):
Act as an extension of the UIT Service Desk management structure, facilitating seamless service delivery and support at OSU -Cascades.
Maintain alignment with Service Desk workflows, documentation practices, and escalation protocols to ensure consistency across campuses.
Identify cross-team service delivery issues and lead collaborative problem-solving efforts to ensure timely and efficient resolution.
Support the development, documentation, and enforcement of operational policies specific to OSU -Cascades in collaboration with the Director and UIT leadership.
Contribute to the development and implementation of short- and long-term goals related to service delivery, customer support, and process improvement.
Escalate campus-specific concerns and service delivery trends to the Director, and actively participate in Service Desk leadership communications and planning efforts.
Coordinate with other UIT functional units (e.g., Infrastructure, Security, Identity and Access Management) to ensure integrated IT services and support across the university.
What You Will Need
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field,ORan equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience providing end-user IT support, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues across hardware, software, and network systems.
Experience in a supervisory or management role, with responsibility for hiring, assigning work, evaluating performance, coaching, and, when necessary, addressing personnel matters including disciplinary action or termination.
Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams, foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, and support employee development and retention.
Proven experience managing IT services in a dynamic, customer-focused environment, with a strong emphasis on service delivery, responsiveness, and quality assurance.
Broad technical proficiency with current and legacy desktop operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS, Linux), mobile platforms, and enterprise productivity software such as Microsoft 365, antivirus tools, system utilities, and remote management tools.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex problems, exercise sound judgment, and make data-informed decisions in a multifaceted IT environment.
Proven success in relationship management, including the ability to collaborate across departments, with vendors, and with central IT to align local needs with institutional priorities.
Proven experience in implementing inclusion practices in IT operations and team leadership; demonstrated outcomes may include improved satisfaction metrics, documented inclusion initiatives, and completed team trainings.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have
Experience managing or supporting IT in a higher education environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting academic and research technology needs, including classroom technologies, lab environments, and remote learning infrastructure.
Experience with IT project management, including initiating, planning, executing, and closing projects that meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
Working knowledge of networking concepts and infrastructure, including Wi-Fi, VoIP, and cabling, with the ability to coordinate support and escalation.
Experience developing or contributing to IT policy, procedure, and service documentation.
Demonstrated ability to analyze user needs, assess technology options, and recommend scalable, cost-effective solutions.
Experience fostering partnerships and building trust with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, administrative leaders, and technical teams.
Familiarity with ITIL or other service management frameworks; ITIL Foundation certification is a plus.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Schedule
This position will work a typical Monday - Friday schedule and will be based on the Bend campus. This position may at times require work outside of normal business hours and/or weekends.
Inclement Weather
This position is deemed essential, and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergencies, and other University work curtailments or closures.
Modality
On-site:This position is designated as on-site. The selected individual will be expected to report to the assigned work location.
Physical Requirements
This position may require occasional standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting equipment up to 50 pounds.
