2025 2L Summer Associate Overview: Finance Business Unit The Orrick 2L Summer Associate-Finance position is a unique opportunity for a highly qualified 2L student to gain valuable experience within the Finance Business Unit at a leading law firm.

You will be a full member of Orrick's 2026 Summer Associate Program, specifically within the Finance Business Unit, and compensated as an Orrick Summer Associate.

Orrick partner sponsors will oversee your work assignments, networking opportunities, and career coaching, tailored to the finance sector which include the following Practice Groups: Banking & Finance, Public Finance, Real Estate, Restructuring, and Structured Finance.

Contingent upon your work performance during the 2L summer and continued academic excellence during your 3L year, you may receive an offer for a first-year associate position within the Finance Business Unit at the conclusion of your summer.

Application Process

The firm is exclusively looking for entrepreneurial, determined, and engaged students with strong academic credentials and a demonstrated interest in the Finance Business Unit. This includes relevant past work experience and/or academic exposure (coursework and/or scholarship) in finance-related fields.

In your cover letter, please clearly indicate your interest in the Finance practice group. A full list of Orrick's practice groups, and which Business Unit they are affiliated with, can be found here.

Applicants must provide a resume, transcript (including Spring semester grades when available), and cover letter articulating your interest both in the position and the firm. If your spring grades are not available at the time of application, please log back in to your profile to supplement your application as soon as you receive your grades.

Responsibilities

As an Orrick 2L Summer Associate, our goal is to provide you with a meaningful and rewarding summer experience.

You will do substantive work, spanning a wide breadth of assignments across Orrick's varied practices and offices.

You will be provided with opportunities to gain a better understanding of the practice of law -including the potential to shadow attorneys - and participate in national and local trainings, including workshops on improving your legal writing skills and how to become a more effective speaker.

Our summer program also hosts unique programming and events designed to help you get to better know your fellow Summer Associates and Orrick attorneys, including local office and national social programming. Past programming has included classes on making sushi, charcuterie boards, and candles, attending baseball games, canoeing, sailing, beach cycling, karaoke, Top Golf, bowling, and chocolate tastings.

Qualifications

Applicants must be rising 2Ls (class of 2027) pursuing a JD at an ABA-accredited law school. 2Ls attending a part-time program or pursuing a JD/MBA degree at an ABA-accredited law school, who are not graduating in 2027, are also eligible.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected gross salary for this position is $4,326.92/week.
