This is a high-profile position that oversees the Iowa DOT administrative rules, analyzes federal and state legislation, and provides legal research for the Executive Leadership Team. The Attorney 2 will be immersed in a variety of topics relating to transportation safety, property management, liability, contracting, driver licensing, motor vehicle registration, and business and professional licensing.

Location : This position is based in the Iowa DOT headquarters in Ames, Iowa, but will have the opportunity to work remotely for a portion of hours. The position may have occasional in-state and out-of-state travel.
Shift Requirements : This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position. The position will primarily work during core business hours of 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, to maximize collaboration with staff and partners. Iowa DOT may authorize a flexible work schedule upon request.
As an Attorney 2 , your duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
Oversee and coordinate administrative rule reviews and updates, primarily in Iowa Administrative Rule 761 (see https://www.legis.iowa.gov/docs/iac/agency/761.pdf ).
Manage and review administrative rule stakeholder and legislative review, including regular appearances before the Iowa State Legislature Administrative Rule Review Committee.
Analyze federal and state proposed and passed legislation impacting Iowa DOT rules and processes.
Provide legal analysis and research to the Executive Leadership Team.
Collaborate with other staff in the Office of the Director to identify key issues, emerging trends, or process improvements.
Special Requirements:
Employees may be required to be admitted to the Iowa State Bar by the appointing authority.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
Graduation from an accredited school of law, and experience equal to two years of full-time work in the practice of law; not including experience as a law clerk.
Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work with the employing agency in the practice of law; not including experience as a law clerk.

Additional Qualification Requirements
