Job Description:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing support and services to employees across various programs within the organization. The Human Resources Generalist will support our waterfront employees working on shipyards in the San Diego, CA area with on-boarding and engagement, during the life cycle of employment, including addressing questions and concerns related to benefits, employee relations issues, training, and overall enforcement of Company values, policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Assists employees and managers on personnel-related matters such as performance expectations, leave management, discipline, termination and partners with Sector HRBPs and Employee Relations on company procedures and policies.
Assists with recruitment and onboarding processes for GDIT waterfront population, which may include HR support for job fairs.
Participates in new employee orientation and offboarding activities.
Assists employees and managers with general information and interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with labor and employment laws, company guidelines, policies and procedures, and best practices.
Advises management and participates in activities to resolve employee performance deficiencies.
Addresses employee concerns, manages disputes, supports performance management processes and proactively supports initiatives to foster a positive/productive work environment.
Assists with completion of HR activities and initiatives included but not limited to performance evaluations, goal setting, and career conversations and performance discussions to employees.
Escalates all employee matters requiring HR/management attention timely and with sufficient detail to ensure prompt and appropriate resolution.
Ensures employees are directed to the right GDIT resources for workplace accommodations, leave requests, benefit questions, and compensation.
Identifies training needs and supports employee development.
Communicates orally and in writing in English and Spanish with management and non-management employees.
Regularly engages with employees and GDIT management directly on the waterfront which may include onboard ship and various offboard office locations.
Respond to requests and inquiries in person and over the telephone.
Work hours are 8 hours per day and are generally from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, although may start earlier.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education/Experience: Requires high school diploma with 6 years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree with 2 years related experience
Fluency in English and Spanish and the ability to speak, read, and write clearly and effectively in both languages is required. Candidate must be agreeable to a bi-lingual interview.
Position is fully onsite and requires frequent travel to various worksites in and near San Diego.
Working knowledge of HR concepts, practices and procedures.
Demonstrated organization and creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively listen, maintain confidentiality, speak professionally, and learn processes and procedures quickly.
Must have knowledge of timekeeping policies and procedures in California.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to work under pressure.
Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.
Aptitude to learn, understand, and respond to internal customer needs.
Must be detailed oriented.
Ability to multitask and prioritize demands.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Required Technical Skills: Will require a well-rounded knowledge of Microsoft applications.
Location: Fully on-site at various shipyard locations. 75% of the time on the waterfront locations with the balance being in a GDIT office.
US Citizenship Required - Performs work in a facility that requires U.S. citizenship
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires spending time on ships, so must be able to move freely as needed onboard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include:
Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects or controls, and to talk and hear.
Must be able to wear hard-hats, steel-toed boots, safety glasses physically access and transit all areas of shipyards and jobsites, which may include walking long distances, walking on uneven surfaces, gangways, climbing stairs and occasionally climbing ladders.
Occasional exposure to outdoor elements, dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise. The noise level in this environment is usually moderate but can be loud.

The likely salary range for this position is $68,000 - $92,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
