DAPER offers a dynamic working environment for a full-time Physical Therapist to deliver rehabilitation services to varsity student-athletes. The primary responsibility of the Physical Therapist is to devise and implement individualized rehabilitation protocols for student-athletes referred by the Team Physician, and assist in supervising rehabilitation services provided by the Certified Athletic Trainer when appropriate. The Physical Therapist serves an essential role in maintaining high-level communication between team Coaches, Sports Performance Coaches, Certified Athletic Trainers, Sports Dietitians, Sports Psychologists, and Team Physicians. The Physical Therapist will have the opportunity to learn and maintain skills under the guidance of physicians from the Sports Medicine Division at Stanford's School of Medicine.
Responsibilities include:
Manage comprehensive and individualized plans of care for referred student-athletes, including evaluation, treatment, assessment, and discharge.
Provide advanced rehabilitation services. This includes but is not limited to:
Manual therapies: manipulation, myofascial techniques, joint mobilizations, soft tissue mobilizations, and taping
Therapeutic exercises and neuromuscular re-education: tendon loading progressions, stimulation or relaxation of muscles, isometric/isotonic/isokinetic loading, progressive loading with acute: chronic load ratio in mind, NMES
Therapeutic activities: running, change of direction, agility, and return to practice/training progressions
Vestibular rehabilitation: assess and treat student-athletes following head injuries/concussions (preferred, but not required - applicant should be open to acquiring this skillset)
Utilize technology and sports science concepts to provide objective measures to allow for a clear and concise plan of care: force plates, isokinetic dynamometer, hand-held dynamometry, biofeedback, etc.
Design return-to-play protocols for student-athletes and work with the Certified Athletic Trainer and Sports Performance coach to supervise return to play.
Provide gait analysis and evaluation of lower limb biomechanical alignment.
Assess, cast/scan, and prescribe appropriate foot orthoses.
Screen, evaluate, and provide a plan of care with rehabilitation interventions for vestibular dysfunction/concussions.
Assist in pre-participation physical examinations.
Fit and apply protective appliances and braces.
Document with accuracy, integrity, and detail to allow for legal billing of insurance per HHS guidelines.
Manage scheduled patient appointments with professional time management.
Assure confidentiality of student-athlete medical records per HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
Collaborate with all members of the sports medicine team to provide the highest quality of care to student athletes: Certified Athletic Trainers, Team Physicians, Surgeons, Sports Psychologists, Sports Dieticians, and Equipment Managers. This includes referrals when appropriate.
Provide effective communication of rehabilitation progress to all appropriate personnel in the sports medicine team.
Maintain and practice athletic training room and venue emergency protocols, including CPR, two-way communication, emergency transportation and evacuation, liaison with emergency transport carriers and emergency departments.
Additional administrative duties related to clinic operations, as directed by Assistant Athletic Director, Physical Therapy.
Assist in the supervision/mentoring of Advanced Post Graduate Athletic Trainers, PT students/shadows, physio students, AT students.
When indicated, provide extended hours coverage.
Minimal requirement to provide event coverage.
No requirement to travel.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Graduate degree in physical therapy and experience working with Division I student athletes or professional athletes, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Ability to acquire licensure to practice Physical Therapy by the State of California Physical Therapy Board.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
Eagerness for collaboration with humility. Always strive to perform at one's best by continuous learning, teaching, and practicing to provide the highest level of care to the highest level of athletes.
Current CPR certification.
The expected pay range for this position is $117,052 to $122,200 per annum.
