The Data Scientist 2 within UHC Medicare & Retirement will continue to reimagine the foundational metrics and analytics. This role will integrate new relationships around the company, new data sources, and new methods/technologies along the way. As a subject matter expert, the role will recommend best approaches to transform the healthcare industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assesses and interprets customer needs and requirements

Identifies solutions to non-standard requests and problems

Solves moderately complex problems and/or conducts moderately complex analyses

Works with minimal guidance; seeks guidance on only the most complex tasks

Translates concepts into practice

Provides explanations and information to others on difficult data issues

Coaches, provides feedback, and guides others

Uses statistics and advanced mathematics to support company objectives:

Provide analysis, research and reporting on diverse and complex healthcare data sets

Recognize utilization and other patterns in data

Identify opportunities for improvement

Specific Job Responsibilities

Provide analysis and effectiveness reporting on Incentive Programs, Cost and Revenue, Utilization, and Risk

Identify MLR and margin pressures to facilitate financial improvement as quickly as possible

Migrate data and applications to cloud platforms and integrate reporting, analytics, and data processes to our Decision Support team from our legacy IT department, which is transitioning to support the broader Optum business

Enable innovative effectiveness studies aimed at reducing the impact of wasted labor and outdated data assets

Required Qualifications:

3+ years of professional data analysis experience, including some experience working with large data sets

Beginner or higher level of proficiency with statistical and data management software (SQL, R, Python, SAS), statistical methods

Preferred Qualification:

Experience within the healthcare industry

The salary range for this role is $71,600 to $140,600 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
