POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs professional subpoena and investigative services for the Ada County Prosecutor's Office; performs related duties as required. The position is located in the Ada County Prosecutor's Office.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The incumbent works with prosecuting attorneys and law enforcement and is granted considerable latitude to exercise independent judgment to complete assigned tasks. Investigators must use good problem-solving skills and be both flexible and adaptable in completing assignments. Completed work is reviewed from an overall standpoint in terms of timeliness, thoroughness, compatibility with other work, and effectiveness in meeting expected results.
Essential Functions
Serves subpoenas, summons, and other documents as assigned;
Locates individuals utilizing a variety of sources, accessing information from phone calls, text messages, internet sources, case management software, police reports and in person contacts;
Conducts review of audio and video files for the purpose of making redactions where appropriate;
Takes photographs and collects physical and electronic evidence;
Conducts and documents interviews with victims, witnesses and persons with knowledge;
Makes copies of media evidence for case preparation;
Researches the background of persons relative to cases;
Coordinates and/or conducts additional investigative activities by filling gaps identified in cases;
Examines crime scenes and physical evidence to gain information for the prosecution;
Identifies possible suspects using a working knowledge of criminal investigative procedures, and documents additional evidence;
Testifies in court regarding investigative actions taken and pertinent results;
Conducts comprehensive reviews of police investigations, identifies problems and deficiencies;
Serves as a liaison between the Prosecuting Attorney's Office and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

Job Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or an equivalent combination of education and experience required;
Must have accreditation in or proven knowledge of basic police skills and be proficient with firearms and self-defense techniques;
Demonstrated understanding and application of the principles of good customer service;
Understanding of investigative case management and case prioritization;
Good knowledge of the principles, procedures, and practices of criminal investigation;
Working knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws;
Experience in interviewing witnesses, victims, and related parties;
Skill in gaining trust and confidence of others;
Skill in giving clear and convincing testimony in court;
Ability to use a camera and related equipment to capture optimal image quality, ensuring proper lighting and composition;
Ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive written reports;
Ability to communicate with and relate to a wide variety of professionals, police officers, victims and witnesses;
Ability to document cases and present such to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office;
Ability to work effectively with situations that may be highly emotional in nature;
Ability to maintain effective working relationships;
Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office applications.
OTHER REQUIRMENTS
Must possess a valid Idaho driver's license;
The incumbent is subject to a criminal records check and fingerprinting;
Must qualify at least twice annually with duty weapon;
Adherence to the Code of Ethics for legal profession is required;
This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Frequently works hours outside of normal business hours due availability for witness contact and trial preparation;
The work is performed throughout the county in a variety of environments, including office settings, courtrooms, crime scenes, private residences, and public spaces;
Requires the use of standard office equipment, as well as specialized investigative tools such as audio/video playback devices, cameras, and forensic software;
May work in high stress environments that involve an element of personal danger, including exposure to potentially volatile situations, emotionally distressed individuals, or sensitive subject matter.
