Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads the manufacturing engineering function for Xylem's multi-site, Engineer-to-Order (ETO) and Make-to-Stock (MTS) water treatment operations. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role drives standardization, scalability, and process excellence across custom system design, fabrication, and assembly operations. With a deep understanding of ETO complexity, the manager ensures each facility is aligned to shared best practices while supporting local manufacturing capabilities. This leader will drive cross-site initiatives that improve quality, reduce lead times, optimize cost, and enhance safety-ensuring seamless execution of high-mix, custom water treatment projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Multi-Site Engineering Leadership
Lead a distributed team of manufacturing and process engineers supporting operations in Colorado Springs, CO; Spring Valley, CA; Acworth, GA; Plymouth and Chaska, MN; Ludington, MI; Bridgeport, NJ; and Mississauga, Canada.
Standardize manufacturing engineering tools, workflows, and documentation while supporting ETO and MTS flexibility across locations.
Collaborate with site leaders to ensure alignment between engineering support and operational priorities.
Process Development & Execution
Translate engineered designs into efficient, repeatable manufacturing processes for custom skids, pump systems, control panels, and modular assemblies.
Facilitate design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviews and ensure P&IDs and layouts are optimized for buildability across sites.
Leads collaboration between design engineers and production teams to optimize manufacturing processes.
Develop and maintain work instructions, test protocols, and documentation tailored to each manufacturing site.
Process Optimization & Lean Initiatives
Drive cross-site process improvements using lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, improve flow, and enhance build quality.
Scale best practices across sites to reduce variability and improve operational consistency in our manufacturing plants.
Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance KPIs like on-time delivery.
Capital Projects & Tooling Strategy
Oversee selection and implementation of fabrication tools, equipment, and custom jigs to support product-specific manufacturing needs.
Align capital investments with strategic priorities across multiple locations.
Project Execution & Technical Support
Supports daily manufacturing operations, reviewing engineering drawings against actual production outcomes and driving resolution to discrepancies.
Troubleshoot and resolve production challenges across sites to maintain execution continuity and customer satisfaction.
Partner with project management and field service teams to align engineering support with project schedules and technical requirements.
Evaluate and balance site capacity, skills, and workload to ensure delivery commitments are met.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
Partner with the Quality team to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations (e.g., UL508A, ASME, NSF).
Support process audits and root cause investigations across all sites.
Drive collaboration on documentation control and test traceability to meet project-specific and industry requirements.
Safety & Environmental Stewardship
Promote and enforce safety practices aligned with OSHA, NFPA, and local standards.
Ensure ergonomic and safe practices are embedded into mechanical and electrical manufacturing processes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline.
5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in an ETO or capital equipment environment, including 2+ years of leadership experience.
Background in water treatment equipment manufacturing strongly preferred.
Multi-site support or regional operations leadership experience required.
Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), SAP experience, and process improvement tools (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
Familiarity with electrical/mechanical fabrication, PLC panel wiring, system assembly, and FAT procedures.
Willingness to travel up to 25% to support remote sites.
Salary range:
$93,900.00 - $169,000.00
