JOB SUMMARY
The Department of Public Works (DPW) Power Technical Administrative Assistant is responsible for maintaining a complete, timely, and accurate record of the work done by the DPW Power Crew, under the direction of the DPW Power Operations Manager and the DPW Power Operations Assistant Manager. This role works to collate data generated by a team of around 20 technicians and volunteers working dynamically across several worksites of varying size.

From August - September : Full-Time, Non-Exempt, based on-site out of Black Rock City, Nevada.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
General
Be on time and ready to work for all scheduled shifts.
Work independently and with the DPW Power Crew to efficiently track power data.
Wear your allocated PPE (personal protective equipment) which is specific for the materials you are handling. Let your Manager know if you need replacement PPE.
Documentation & Tracking (60%)
Collect and organize data related to the core operations of the DPW Power Crew through written records submitted by Power crew members and through direct observation.
Track and collate critical metrics across multiple worksites in spreadsheets and other documents in a legible and timely manner.
Track the usage of consumables and notify the DPW Power Operations Manager of potential shortages.
Track the deployment and reclamation of vendor equipment and notify the DPW Power Operations Manager of any discrepancies.
Track grid deployments utilizing mobile devices.
Maintain an inventory of available tools and equipment.
Collate the Purchasing list for the following season prior to leaving Black Rock City.
Collect daily data and organize into manuals and SOPs for various groups within the department.
Reporting (20%)
Maintain Power department data ensuring all documents are appropriately filed and available for review to the appropriate users.
Generate daily reports tracking the progress of work throughout the season.
Generate an end-of-season summary displaying critical metrics and broad trends.
Create clean archival copies of each season's data for future reference.
Report emerging patterns that may affect Power operations in the near future.
Team Support (15%)
Work with DPW Power Grid Leads to gather data in a way that encourages thoughtfulness and precision.
Retrieve and deliver specific information to and from managers and other crew members on an as-needed basis.
Other Functions and Responsibilities (5%)
Maintain clear and respectful communication with the DPW Power Crew, BRC Departments, Vendors, Participants, and Artists.
Work with the DPW Power Crew to plan and execute LNT and Waste disposal plans.
Actively participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe worksite using only OSHA approved safety equipment.
Review and understand the BRC Rain Contingency Plan and help to execute as directed.
Consistently show up and participate in Team Meetings and DPW Morning Meetings.
Read, understand, and abide by the rules and codes of conduct according to the Burning man Staff policies, protocols and behavioral standards.
Help implement Burning Man's Integrated Plan and work with all BRC departments to ensure power distribution and safety.
Monitor personal well-being, be aware of work expectations, and proactively address any concerns with management.
Perform various other duties as assigned by DPW Power Management.

Documentation - Assists in the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to their assigned duties. Maintains their information environment in a way that allows another person to easily make use of it.
Knowledge sharing - Works to reveal the patterns embedded in the data stream and share them with the crew in a comprehensible way.
Training development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested. Shares the methods and understanding of their work with any crewmates who are interested.
Learning - Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Able and willing to follow standards set in necessary trainings that can be provided on site:
Completed DPW Power Operations packet
Working knowledge of OSHA compliant personal protection equipment, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers.
Able to safely navigate city streets and access roads that are congested with participants, bicycles, and vehicles.
Clear, service-oriented and professional communication, verbally and written. Experienced with using 2 way radios and following radio protocol.
Proficient at navigating digital and online technology; Able to proactively engage in advanced learning, and effectively update existing online applications, tools, systems, spreadsheets, and documents.
Expert in handling data entry with an attention for accuracy; highly organized, able to prioritize, and motivated with the ability to adhere to a strict schedule.
Operates with a high level of behavioral integrity, confidentiality and discretion of sensitive information; maintains tidiness in work ethics and the work environment, and remains calm and focused under pressure.
Capable of working in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, poor air quality and low to no visibility at times.
Ability to temporarily relocate for work at the Burning Man event held in Gerlach, Nevada.
Preferred
Experience with Entertainment, Commercial, and or Residential electrical (1 to 3 years).
Familiarity with portable power equipment and its naming conventions.
Construction experience and familiarity with construction paperwork: purchase orders, equipment lists, and manifests.
It is helpful if the candidate has been to Burning Man and is familiar with the event worksite, Black Rock City and its departments.
Experience working in remote wilderness and/or desert environments.
Familiarity with email, reading spreadsheets, and maps.
OSHA 10 Certification (May be earned through in house training).
First-Aid knowledge.
Preferred to have a valid Driver's License and a good driving record.

COMPENSATION
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated rate for this position:
From August - September is $16.50 to $17.50 per hour.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Off-playa: Work is primarily sedentary in nature, no special demands are required.
On-playa: Work is primarily sedentary but will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
