We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Engineering department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Sr. Engineer for the day shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)
Provide engineering support to a variety of shipboard repair projects at various work sites in compliance with customer quality, schedule, and requirements
Communicate with and provide engineering support to a variety of trade shops, production work, planning function, or project work when needed
Prepare and maintain, as directed, design studies, proposals, sketches (including purchase specifications, engineering calculations, etc.), test memos, and other engineering support as directed by the Planning, Engineering & Scheduling Director with little technical guidance
Performs in a professional position requiring high level of specialized knowledge and experience
Demonstrates ability to analyze complex problems; researches and synthesizes data; proposes unique solutions and alternatives requiring considerable innovation
Serves as engineering leader and technical coordinator for projects
Leads, trains, and mentors other engineering personnel in the duties and responsibilities of the department; serves as checker for engineering jobs
Assists in preparing estimates, bids, and proposals in accordance with customer requirements for the engineering group
Serves as one of the primary points of contacts for customers
If assigned, performs the duty of the Dock Master
POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)
Typically has a ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Discipline
E.I.T Certificate is desirable
PE License is desirable
FEA Certificate/experience is desirable
Training as an ISO Internal Auditor is desirable
Training as a Green/Black belt is desirable
POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)
Minimum of 10 years shipboard repair experience within a public or private shipyard and/or ship systems operation with a Bachelor's degree or 7 years of experience with a Master's degree
Experienced engineer, fully competent to perform engineering tasks and responsibilities; well-rounded ability in multiple systems
Familiarity with shipboard equipment
Ability to understand and apply regulatory body rules and regulations, US Navy, and Industry Standards
Demonstrated technical writing skills
Effective decision-maker requiring minimal guidance
Demonstrated AutoCAD skills
Demonstrated Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) skills
Prior military experience (U.S. Navy) is desirable
Experience of US Navy ship maintenance and repair processes and techniques
Experience in ship technical problem resolution especially with hull, machinery, and coatings
Participation in Engineering Trade societies dedicated to improvement of the Shipbuilding Industry is desirable
Ability to assess customer technical requirements, analyze technical problems, identify, develop, and apply appropriate solutions utilizing customer technical standards
Ability to understand and evaluate engineering product effectiveness and applicability for production execution and to assess and provide resolution for engineering product deficiencies during production execution periods
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing complex technical issues involving factual, qualitative, or abstract information including concise rationales for conclusions or recommendations
Ability to create and maintain technical databases, prepare and present reports
Ability to demonstrate customer service skills with various groups, organizations, and personnel and develop good working relationships and teams
Ability to represent the company's position on various technical matters in a professional and courteous manner; takes ownership and accountability for their engineering responsibilities, possesses indisputable subject matter knowledge
Ability to work aboard marine vessels, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, wear personal protective equipment (PPE), travel locally or when requested by senior management travel to remote locations, and to work nights and weekends during peak workloads or when requested by the Planning, Engineering, Scheduling Director.
Ability to gain access to government facilities, to obtain a DoD security clearance, and to obtain a CAC card once employed by the company

Will be informed of priorities and allowed to schedule work as necessary to complete required tasks with minimal guidance provided by Planning, Engineering & Scheduling Director
Ability to serve as engineering leader and technical coordinator for projects
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as an authoritative engineer and provide engineering support for development of work specifications and technical work documents
Accomplish development and review of test memos, technical reports, and engineering responses
Accomplish technical analysis support and review for work in planning and execution stages such as testing, experiments, trails, technical data, etc.; assess customer technical requirements, analyze technical problems, identify, develop, and apply appropriate solutions utilizing customer technical standards
Provide technical assistance to production trades in the accomplishment of work items; provide resolutions for technical issues and problems; attend meetings, as required, pertaining to engineering and technical issues and present technical positions in a professional and courteous manner
Interprets regulatory body rules, US Navy specifications, and industry standards
Provide engineering calculations/analysis to support work in planning and execution stages
Develop drawings/sketches/BOMs using engineering research and evaluation and CAD software
Conduct non-conformance evaluations (DFS) of systems and equipment and provides documentation of the resolution
Research and analyze of various shipboard complex problems and propose solutions to those complications
Provide assistance to other engineers upon request; functions as checker/approver for engineering items
Accomplish ship checks, as required, to accomplish tasks, on-site work scope validation, and technical evaluation in support of engineering requirements
Ensure all products developed are in accordance with the company and customer's quality, schedule, and cost
Demonstrates professional and business skill aptitude
Represents company on official business, as directed, for engineering matters
As directed and if qualified, perform internal audits of the company
As directed, participate in departmental or company CPI events
Other items as directed by the Planning, Engineering & Scheduling Director
ACCOUNTABILITY

Shipboard diesel engine repair and overhaul experience is desirable
Operation, trouble-shooting, modification, and repair of marine propulsion and support equipment and general shipboard systems experience is desirableAutodesk Inventor experience is desirable.
