Finance Director

The City of Bristol, VA is seeking a dedicated Deputy Director with our Finance department to join in our efforts in supporting the daily operation of local City government. The Deputy Finance Director works under the direction of the Assistant City Manager/CFO to manage the financial operations of the City.

Successful applicants will possess advanced professional knowledge of the principles of finance and accounting and knowledge of procurement practices. Successful applicants will also possess strong skills in leadership, planning, organization, analysis, and teamwork. Must be able to communicate effectively to various levels of contacts within and outside the City and be able to align priorities, short and long-term goals of the City effectively and in sound business processes.

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Supervising processes of the Finance Department including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and purchasing- ensuring accuracy and completeness of City financial transactions and compliance with appropriate federal, state, and municipal laws governing financial reporting for governmental entities

Preparing and reviewing annual budget information and overseeing the preparation of the City's annual budget documents

Providing oversight for grant reimbursements and federal grant reporting

Bachelor's degree with major course work in business, accounting, finance, or related field required. 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible local, state, federal government, or private sector experience in accounting, finance or auditing preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) designation through the Government Finance Officers Association preferred.
