Overview
The Vice President of Operational Finance will be responsible for, in collaboration with the segment President of the Operations group and executive management members, the development of the segment's financial management strategy and contribute to the development of the organization's strategic goals. In addition to the strategic components, the Vice President of Operational Finance will be charged with financial reporting for the segment and for developing and implementing policies and procedures, related to both project accounting and finance as well as certain general operational processes when necessary to champion the strategic goals of the company.
Responsibilities
Advise the segment President, senior financial leadership, and other key members of senior management on financial planning budgeting, cash flow, operational priorities, and policy matters.
Contribute to the development of the segment's strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the segment organization.
Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the segment President and senior financial leadership informed of all critical issues.
Represent the group externally, as necessary, particularly in contract, settlement, and lease negotiations.
Coordinates with the segment Presidents and provides suggestions and feedback to ensure policies, procedures and culture are consistent across all Regions.
Accountable for, and serves as a role model for, building and promoting a company culture of safety, innovation, teamwork, ethics, trust, and inclusion.
Provides advice, guidance, and direction for leadership and talent development within the segment including a focus on maintaining, thorough communications, delegation of responsibility and delegation of authority. Success is measured through the development of competent leadership and management teams.
Directs and oversees personnel recruiting and development, project assignments, placement, and career advancement decisions, in conjunction with the operational VPs, and routinely provides decisions for approval and coordination with the segment President.
Assists segment leadership in the Review of forecasts for the projects in the Region.
Assists in monitoring segment project cash positions to ensure accurate and timely billings and collections.
Interpreting financial accounting reports and implementing changes to improve reporting processes and procedures.
Providing timely, accurate and meaningful information to aid executive management decisions.
Conducting ad hoc analyses of the organization's finances and presenting findings to executive leadership for decision making and planning.
Responding timely to inquiries received from management, internal and external auditors, and others regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
Reviews internal and external reports, schedules, and statements on a monthly basis.
Presents segment financial information and results prepared in accordance with current GAAP guidance to the Executive Vice President of Finance on a monthly basis.
Ensures that all deliverables are in accordance with current accounting standards.
Performs any other duties or responsibilities related to financial reporting as assigned by the Senior Vice President of Operational Finance and/or Executive Vice President of Finance.
Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the direct reports plus the Senior Manager, Operational Finance (or equivalent) consistent with the expectations of the President of the segment group.
Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
Facilitate and ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development as it relates to financial matters and general operational needs.
In conjunction with the EVP of Execution (or equivalent), establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments for the operational finance team members.
Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), monthly and annual revenue and gross profit burn projections, operational priorities, policy matters, risk levels and sources, savings opportunities, and Present Estimate (or equivalent) job reporting.
Generate, analyze, and deliver segment financial statements and performance to the segment President, EVP of Execution (or equivalent), EVP of Operational Services (or equivalent) and senior financial leadership.
Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process for the segment.
Act in a regional financial partner role for assigned projects, evaluating results and monitoring at a micro-level the job performance, critical financial processes, project team performance, risk and accountability.
Provide analytical support to the segment group's internal management team including development of internal management reporting capabilities.
Collaborate and assist in the improvement of administrative and operational services in order to eliminate silos and work cross-departmentally with the goal of overall process improvement and improved financial results.
Maintain strong relationships with executives and senior management by identifying their needs and providing business solutions. In addition, sharing critical information in order to maximize resources, mitigate risk and drive profitability.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area.
CPA required.
Minimum 10 years experience in a senior management role ideally with both external audit and in-house financial management experience gained in a high-growth organization
Experience with GAAP as well as construction accounting principles
Proven track record of success facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization
Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask
Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers

Passion for the Company mission
Experience working for one of the Big 4 accounting firms and/or construction industry experience.
Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area.
CMA, CFMA or MBA.
