Intern Manufacturing Engineer

Position Description:

The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will provide hands-on support to the Manufacturing Engineer and production teams. This role is designed for a student or early-career individual interested in gaining practical experience in manufacturing process improvement, documentation, and quality initiatives. The intern will assist with day-to-day engineering tasks, observe and document procedures, and contribute to various improvement projects under supervision.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in documenting production procedures and updating standard work instructions.

Shadow engineers and learn about process improvement and production flow.

Support data collection and analysis for ongoing improvement initiatives.

Help review returned materials/products for engineering or quality evaluations.

Provide administrative and technical support on process engineering and quality improvement projects.

Assist in organizing and updating engineering documentation, drawings, and records.

Observe and document layout reviews, production workflows, and team collaboration processes.

Participate in team meetings and contribute insights or feedback as appropriate.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Interest in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial processes.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to follow instructions and work independently when needed.

Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.); familiarity with AutoCAD or ERP systems is a plus.

Willingness to learn and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Education and/or Experience:

Computer skills: Excellent Microsoft Excel, Visio, Word, Access and Project, AutoCAD, Label software and ERP systems.

Reports To: Operations manager but receives direction from Manufacturing Engineer

Physical Job Requirements:

Sitting for extended periods while working at a computer or in meetings

Standing and walking intermittently throughout the day, including walking through production areas

Occasional bending, stooping, or crouching to inspect equipment or access technical setups

Reaching with hands and arms to retrieve files, tools, or components

Light (up to 25 lbs) of proto@types, samples, drawings, or tools

Hand dexterity for computer use, writing, and handling small parts

Visual acuity to read schematics, blueprints, and detailed technical documents

Environment: Office and Warehouse environment, occasionally hot or cold temperatures, moderate noise level, occasional dust, chemical odors
