The Manufacturing & Automation Engineering Manager for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for a team of engineers and line support technicians within our Chaska Reagent Operations facility. The site manufactures highly technical consumables that are essential to patient diagnosis and Beckman Coulter Diagnostics products and this role is crucial to delivering high-quality solutions for our customers. As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for developing, installing, supporting, and improving multiple semiautomated and automated equipment processes and drive projects that improve the overall equipment operational performance in areas such as Preventative Maintenance effectiveness, reject reduction, maximized output, and reduced downtime. You will also be responsible for leading new equipment introduction, and recommending automated solutions designed to optimize the flow and performance of our manufacturing processes.
This position is part of the Reagent Operations management team in Chaska, MN, and will be an onsite role. You will be a part of the operations and plant management team and report to the Director of Reagent Operations. Your specific duties as a Manufacturing & Automation Engineering Manager will include:
Team Leadership : Manage, mentor, and develop a team of manufacturing engineers and technicians, providing guidance, support, and personal growth to achieve departmental and company goals.
Equipment Management : Oversee the design, selection, installation, qualification, and ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
Process Optimization : Promote standardization in the development and maintenance of Automation practices and propose changes that increase efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
Continuous Improvement : Identify solutions, using Lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and automated design to drive continuous improvement throughout the factory. Manage daily, weekly and monthly KPI reporting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration : Collaborate with other departments, including development, procurement, and production, to ensure seamless integration of new products and processes.
Project Management : Lead and manage Engineering team project delivery from concept through implementation, ensuring effective, timely, and cost-effective solutions.
Quality Assurance : Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure all manufacturing processes comply with industry standards and regulations; lead risk mitigation, validation and design change processes in a regulated environment
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering principle (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Biomechanical Engineering) and 9+ years of relevant experience, or master's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience.
3+ years' experience in Management and/or Technical Leadership role exemplifying proactiveness and agility.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and activities, and interact with staff and management alike across functional groups and levels.
Must understand process controls on highly automated equipment.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams through challenging situations and run site tiered management meetings that set daily priorities
Continuous improvement mindset.
Demonstrated ability to provide constructive performance coaching to peers and direct reports, both individual contributors and supervisors to ensure the desired outcomes.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Good understanding of Database structures and application architecture.
Familiarity with Power BI and data modeling.
Continuous improvement/Lean concepts including: TPM, SMED changeovers, Lean Conversion, 5S, Kaizen Basics, Problem Solving, Standard Work, Transactional Process Improvement, Value Stream Mapping and Tiered Daily Management.
Strong teamwork, innovation, and willingness to take risks and comfortable with ambiguity
A demonstrated ability to balance and manage both short and long-term company goals.
The salary range for this role is $130k-$150k. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
