Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description

The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture, measurement, and documentation of vital signs, assisting providers with patient exams, and providing telephone and clerical support.

Responsibilities

Assist providers with patient preparation, examination, and education.

Support other clinical care team members, ensuring optimal patient flow and managing variable and unpredictable patient volume.

Provide clerical support and serve as backup for the Patient Services Coordinator or other team members as needed.

Participate in daily team huddles to review and prepare for scheduled patient visits.

Screen all patients for preventative care needs, ongoing support, barriers to care, safety concerns, and potential fall risk.

Conduct motivational interviews including patient screening and/or coaching on disease management ability, motivation to change, learning care needs, and community outreach needs.

Identify potential behavioral health needs of patients using appropriate screening tools and notify providers of findings.

Document clinically related activities accurately in the patient's EMR and perform required patient follow-up, including pap smears, Pb levels, HIV, mammograms, and STDs.

Collect and process specimens, complete requisitions, and document in logbooks or other applicable forms/records.

Essential Skills

2+ years of clinical/medical assistant experience in ambulatory care.

Excellent customer service and patient interaction skills.

Experience with electronic health records, preferably Powerchart.

Proficiency in patient care, including taking patient vitals.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives.

Adhere to department policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards.

Comply with governmental regulations and accreditation standards.

Work Environment

Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The role is within a massive hospital system, specifically in their transplant unit. Parking is available with an additional charge of 50 cents per hour.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
