Summary You will serve as an Electrical Engineer in the Facility & Plant Maintenance Division of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will plan, coordinate and perform technical investigation and research for such engineering/scientific disciplines as electrical, environmental, industrial, safety, material, chemical, metallurgical and structural. You will provide technical assistance to plant maintenance personnel, production shops, contracting personnel and managers of NAVAIR, Navy Public Works, Navy Crane Center and Army. You will monitor team work progress and review work products to ensure soundness of work decisions and completion of project workload. You will anticipate and resolve conflicts between technical, logistical and administrative requirements. You will identify, evaluate and prescribe corrective action for facilities and equipment design deficiencies and reporting significant incidents through appropriate reporting systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing technical advice and support for complex engineering projects including conceptual design, drafting and engineering services for the modification, installation and operation of FRCSW aerospace repair facilities; 2) Providing support for production facilities, unique production support equipment and systems, industrial processes and controls for industrial aerospace support shops; 3) Reviewing and signing off on plans and drawings, coordinating and conducting advance electrical facilities and equipment design work; 4) Analyzing/evaluating causes, effects and alternatives to resolve difficult electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic facilities, equipment and design issues; 5) Conducting feasibility and preliminary design studies for complex projects; and 6) Developing inhouse and outsourcing cost estimates and preparing contracts and delivery orders for engineering services. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
