What You Will Do :
We are currently searching for a Biomedical Engineer to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through support, analysis and translational research within the Translational Vascular Medicine Branch (TVMB). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.
The contractor will work with the principal investigator and other study team members to:
Support the Laboratory of Vascular Thrombosis and Inflammation and Vascular Medicine Program by performing various vascular procedures and conducting engineering and scientific work to enhance practices using biotechnology and medical sciences.
Improve study designs, instrumentation, and medical systems, and is skilled in analyzing data using numerical computing platforms, graphical programming, and 3D modeling, with the ability to learn new software and techniques.
Prepare and revise manuscripts for publication, deliver presentations, create scientific posters, and use graphic design for figures and graphical abstracts.
Develop and test innovative techniques for vascular disease research, communicate findings at national meetings, and work with his mentor to establish metrics for scientific progress, supporting NHLBI's goals and contributing to the NIH mission to improve public health
Assist the Laboratory of Vascular Thrombosis and Inflammation and Vascular Medicine Program.
Plan and perform routine, non-routine, and specialized vascular functional and imaging procedures.
Conduct professional engineering and scientific work using biotechnology.
Enrich practices and techniques with knowledge in medical, physiological, and biological sciences.
Examine and improve study and technical designs.
Enhance instrumentation, materials, diagnostic and therapeutic devices, medical systems, and other essential tools.
Analyze and interpret acquired data.
Utilize numerical computing platforms and graphical programming (e.g., MATLAB and LabVIEW).
Apply knowledge in electrical engineering, statistical analysis, and 3D modeling.
Demonstrate ability to learn new software programs and develop new analytical techniques.
Prepare and revise draft manuscripts for publication.
Deliver oral and written presentations.
Prepare posters for scientific presentations.
Use graphic design for figure and graphical abstract production.
Develop cutting-edge techniques and analytic methods for examining vascular disease manifestations.
Participate in testing methods and comparing data from affected patients and healthy volunteers.
Communicate research at national meetings and through published manuscripts.
Establish metrics for scientific progress and career development with mentor.
Contribute to the goals of the Translational Vascular Medicine Branch and Division of Intramural Research, NHLBI.
Enhance career development to make contributions to vascular and bioengineering science in line with NIH mission.
Mentor postbaccalaureate researchers.
Serve as department representative.
Manage applied optics laboratory.
Commit to interdisciplinary collaboration and technological innovation.
What You Will Need :
PhD or MD Degree.
At least FIVE (5) years of post-doctoral or clinical research fellow experience.
Previous experience interacting with patients as part of clinical or research work.
Ability to obtain a public trust clearance.
Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
Proficiency in programming with MATLAB and LabVIEW.
Experience in optical system simulation and design.
Expertise in noncontact photoacoustic imaging and sensing, biomedical imaging, optical fiber-based sensing, and lensed optical fiber fabrication.
What Would Be Nice To Have :
Scientific writing skills preferred.
Excellent analytical, organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage and coordinate high-priority, short- and long-term projects and studies in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with machine learning for predictive data analysis.
The annual salary range for this position is $85,000.00-$141,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
