The Office is currently seeking an attorney to represent the Office and state agencies in transactional matters. The focus of the position will be on: (1) advising clients on state contracting statutes; (2) negotiating, reviewing, and drafting contracts for the Office and agency clients; and (3) general advice to agency clients on a wide range of issues, including statutory and administrative rules issues. Based upon experience, need, and interest, there is also the potential to engage in work on state bonds, copyright and trademark issues, and real estate and lending issues.
The attorney will practice within a cohort of attorneys housed in the Environmental and Natural Resources Division of the Office. The transactional cohort has a very diverse practice, with no close analog in private practice. The cohort's work is not limited to environmental and natural resources-related work; these transactional attorneys work with clients across the State enterprise, including agencies such as the Department of Administration, Minnesota Management and Budget, Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Information and Technology, Department of Employment and Economic Development, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and many more. The Division seeks attorneys who can excel at learning and practicing in new areas and tackle novel issues.
This position is eligible for hybrid work environment (combination of in-office and telework).
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a law school accredited by the ABA and actively licensed in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota or current licensure within another state with ability to transfer licensure within 90 days of hire
1+ years of experience as a practicing attorney
Outstanding writing, research, and oral communication/advocacy skills (writing sample is required with application submission)
Strong command of contracts law
Experience using electronic files and standard word processing and data management software (at least Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat)
Ability to:

demonstrate solid independent thinking and analytical skills
show excellent judgment, character, and work ethic

To be considered at the S2 level, candidates must have at least 6 years of directly related experience. To be considered at the S3 level, candidates must have at least 12 years of directly related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of practicing law in the State of Minnesota or in any government setting
Experience working on government contracts
Experience working with state or local governments
General counsel experience
Physical Requirements
Ability to move and transport such articles as files, laptop computer and resource materials weighing up to 20 pounds
