JOB REQUIREMENTS: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Evidence Custodian duties may include: Reviews case dispositions, maintains accountability of all property and evidence of the Sheriff\'s Office. Ensures the integrity of evidence and crime lab submissions, processes electronic evidence requests, correspondence and computer checks reference evidence or property releases. Develops, reviews and oversees the administration of policies and procedures related to the evidence and property control function and the preservation and collection of physical evidence. Develops standard operating procedures for the evidence unit. Reviews case files/dispositions to determine proper disposal or return of items. Communicates with insurance agents and tow companies for the release of impounded vehicles. Maintains accurate records of evidence and efficiently tracks all incoming and outgoing evidence. Conducts cell phone downloads. Ensures the evidence room equipment is operational and answers or follows-up with any questions from officers/investigators. Orders evidence supplies and keeps crime van stocked with materials, to collect evidence. Inventories and maintains a supply of resources used in the collection of evidence. Fills out necessary forms, itemizes, packages and mails evidence to the crime lab. Evidence Technician duties may include: Processes scenes, evidence and photography. Document preparation and reporting writing. Responds to crime scenes as requested (including after hours). Inventories impounded vehicles. Photographs death scenes, autopsies, and other crime scenes or evidence. Produces castings and comparative photographs of footwear impressions, tire tracks and other impression evidence. Searches for and develops latent fingerprints at crimes scenes and evidence. Prepares photo logs, reports, which may include narratives, diagrams, sketches, regarding evidence observed, documented, or collected. Processes vehicles for fingerprints, DNA, and any other items of evidentiary value. Operates evidence gathering equipment, including ultraviolent lighting, scales, and test kits. Analyzes, sorts, and preserves evidence from search warrants and crime scenes. Performs laboratory examinations of evidence, including specialized processing involving physical, chemical, and digital methods. Responsible for training and assisting deputies and other evidence technicians. Administrative duties may include: Processes records requests and assists with open records for homicide cases. Processes all electronic records requests, including squad videos and 911 audio. It is unlikely an employee will perform all the duties listed on a regular basis, nor is the list exhaustive in the sense it covers all the duties an employee may be required to perform. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. ** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Good knowledge of modern law enforcement office practices and procedures. Good knowledge of departmental programs, operations and policy with respect to general function performed. Good knowledge of business English, legal terminology, spelling and composition. Ability to perform a variety of complex clerical tasks and accept and exercise independent judgment, with minimal supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships with law enforcement agencies/officials; public defender\'s office, attorney\'s office, and County departments. Good knowledge of research skills with the ability to effectively use statute books, and other research tools/aids. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of departmental practices. Good knowledge of organizational and analytical skills.
