We are seeking a knowledgeable Employment Law Attorney with expertise in federal and Colorado-specific employment laws, including Title VII, FMLA, ADA, the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA), EEO laws and best practices, and other relevant federal and state employment laws and regulations. You'll play a key role in ensuring compliance, mitigating risk, and advising on sensitive workplace issues, while developing meaningful, lasting partnerships with public servants dedicated to delivering essential services.

Hiring Range: $57.69/hour
This position requires on-site attendance every Monday for a minimum of 4 hours. The remaining workdays offer a remote schedule, with occasional in-person attendance as needed. Total weekly hours will be up to 20 hours, depending on office and departmental needs.
Serves at the will and pleasure of the County Attorney. Provides legal services, advice, and representation regarding the County's legal affairs. May assume and coordinate specialized projects as assigned by the County Attorney.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Handles employment matters, including policy development, coordination with/advisement to Human Resources, and coordination with State and Federal employment agencies.
Prepares, drafts, and develops a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, policies, contracts, resolutions, and agreements.
Provides legal advice and support regarding assigned area of responsibility.
Researches and provides written and verbal legal opinions on employment law and matters, as well as some County transactional and local government matters.
Is readily available for consultation with the County Attorney, County Attorney's Office staff, departmental representatives, and Elected or Appointed Officials.
Appears before courts and administrative proceedings at the State and Federal level to represent the County's interests as required.
Represents the County in administrative hearings.
Under the direction of the County Attorney, may perform liaison responsibilities related to managing, overseeing, and coordinating the development and implementation of specialized projects.
Prepares and participates in the development of policies; trains various County staff in implementing policy.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of trends and new innovations in county government and in other assigned areas of the law.
Provides assistance to the County Attorney.
Performs other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised:This classification does not have supervisory authority; however, may be required to provide expertise or limited guidance or direction to employees, such as overseeing work quality, training, and guidance. Typically serves as a subject matter expert on the scope of functional area.
Supervision Received:Receives general supervision. This classification typically performs job duties by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. Regular direction, guidance, and coaching from supervisor may be expected. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Thorough knowledge of Federal and State laws, rules, regulations, and procedures concerning county government and administrative/civil judicial processes and judicial decisions interpreting the same.
Discretion both in the ability to make decisions and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, superiors, clients, other attorneys, community representatives, the judiciary, and the public. Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to exercise sound and professional judgment in conformance with the policies and procedures of the Office of the County Attorney and the objectives and goals of the County.
Ability to exercise tact and impartiality.
Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, make decisions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to set work priorities and accomplish the same in the required time period.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education & Experience
J.D. from an accredited law school required.
Admission to and a member in good standing with the Colorado Bar required within one year of employment; or authorized to practice law in Colorado pursuant to Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct 205.6.
Three years of experience as a practicing attorney.
Licenses/Certificates
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
License in good standing as Attorney and Counselor at Law issued by the Colorado Supreme Court required within one year of employment.
Eligible for admission to U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and U.S. Court of Appeals 10th Circuit.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.
Work Conditions
Duties are primarily performed in an office and remote work environment dependent upon Department discretion and business needs; some travel may be required. This is a part-time position regularly working up to 25 hours per week.
