Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
The Design and Construction Manager will be a key member of the Kuiper Workplace Operations team, responsible for leading the planning, design, and construction of Kuiper's expanding network infrastructure. This role is integral to the development and implementation of Kuiper's campus strategy, including both new construction and facility expansions. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, the position requires expertise in managing complex construction projects while maintaining Amazon's high standards for quality and efficiency.
Key job responsibilities
Oversee end-to-end project management for Kuiper network builds, retrofits, and expansions, including scope definition, schedule management, and budget oversight.
Lead architectural and engineering design processes, ensuring compliance with Amazon specifications and regulatory requirements. Review and approve design changes, evaluate value engineering opportunities, and develop solutions for emerging requirements.
Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing safety, quality, and budget requirements while assessing building conditions and implementing sustainable practices.
Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with architects, contractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
Influence cross-functional teams through constructive dialogue and provide regular status updates to stakeholders, including executive leadership.
Develop, monitor, and forecast project budgets while managing procurement processes, ensuring competitive bid practices, and overseeing contract modifications.
Identify and mitigate project risks, maintaining compliance with contracts and regulations.
Drive standardization and process improvement initiatives in costs, quality, health & safety, and sustainability.
Demonstrate strong leadership skills in managing teams and coordinating with various stakeholders.
This role requires 30% travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office.

A day in the life
In this role, you will serve as a key leader within Kuiper's Design and Construction team, orchestrating the successful delivery of complex industrial and logistics buildings through comprehensive project management and stakeholder coordination. Key responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams in site evaluations, permit management, and critical path schedule development that integrates MHE, robotics, labs, and partner team requirements. You will manage architectural and engineering consultants while serving as the primary escalation point for project challenges, leveraging your expertise to evaluate gaps and implement solutions. Working closely with business stakeholders, you will provide technical guidance, negotiate design and construction terms, and influence key program decisions. Success in this role requires the ability to review complex system integrations, develop technical documentation, mentor team members, and maintain effective communication across all project phases while ensuring adherence to safety standards, budgets, and timelines.
About the team
The Kuiper Workplace Operations (KWO) team manages construction projects, workspace strategy, lab environment programming, and facilities operations for Project Kuiper. Our mission is to optimize all Facilities operations within Kuiper environments to support high-velocity satellite production.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
7+ years of project management, real estate development, architecture/design experience
Experience building and managing a team or department within a startup or entrepreneurial setting, particularly one with both proprietary and contract resources.
Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in architecture, engineering, or business
Support scalable ML solutions that positively impact building efficiency, sustainability, and utilization
Architectural Registration, Professional Engineer Registration, CEM and/or other building professional accreditation
LEED AP BD+C and/or PHIUS+ certification
PMP certification
Proven experience implementing and managing a building design program including development of templates (aka proto@types), technical specifications, and design standards
Technological strategy knowledge and understanding in support of architectural innovation in the industry
Dive Deep to help understand product processing and integration with buildings
Ability to thrive in ambiguous situation and navigate blockers and deliver projects
Invent and create simplified products to support customer goals.
Strong competency with time management, organization, and attention to detail

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $181,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
