What You Will Do
As the Deputy Division Leader for RP-TA55, you will serve as a key advisor and support to the Division Leader for Radiation Protection (RP), providing leadership, technical oversight, and strategic direction for radiation protection services at TA-55. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of worker health and safety programs, emergency preparedness and response (both onsite and offsite), regulatory compliance, and the continued operability of active and legacy nuclear and radiological facilities. You will play a critical role in strategic planning and operational execution to advance directorate objectives related to business and operational excellence. A strong focus will be placed on fostering and maintaining collaborative relationships with key mission stakeholders through exceptional communication and customer service. This position emphasizes long-term strategic workforce and resource planning to ensure RP-TA55 is positioned to support evolving programmatic missions. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Division Leader with resource allocation, succession planning, staff development and mentorship, as well as recruiting and retaining a highly qualified radiation protection workforce. You will also be expected to employ data-driven decision-making to proactively identify, address, and resolve complex radiation protection challenges.

Expert-level knowledge of radiation protection program development and administration under federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as DOE requirements. Expert level knowledge of and experience with radiation protection-related risk assessments and corrective actions
Exemplary oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with internal customers, Laboratory organizations, management, clients (DOE, NNSA), regulators, industry and other stakeholders to prioritize work to meet customer needs. Demonstrated ability to recognize and act on opportunities to influence direction, policy and vision using these skills
Advanced experience conducting sound business practices and promoting objectives in the following areas: performance improvement, safety, quality, security, environment, health, and human resources.
Expert-level leadership characteristics, including personal integrity and accountability, fiduciary responsibility, trustworthiness in relationships, commitment to teamwork, and commitment to quality and excellence in programs and operations.
Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research and/or production, investigating alternative solutions and recommending teaming solutions on problems affecting radiation protection programs.
Expert-level ability to identify, define, analyze, and approve appropriate work processes and work hazards in nuclear facilities. This position requires previous successful management experience.
Extensive experience maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of facility operational requirements and working with facility operations to ensure compliance, safety, security, quality and conduct of operations, engineering, maintenance and training in the performance of work.
Training/Certifications: Relevant professional certifications preferred (e.g. ABHP, NRRPT, and/or other relevant certifications)
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree, from an accredited institution, in a relevant field of study and 12 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Master's degree or Ph.D. in relevant field of study is desired.
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of Laboratory, DOE, and other national programs and requirements relevant to RP Division's mission.
Demonstrated effective interactions with other national laboratories, universities, and industry.
Demonstrated commitment to, and action in, promoting Laboratory objectives including; areas of integrated safety and security management (ISSM), and quality, as well as demonstrated knowledge of Laboratory objectives and other statements of policy/practice/procedures.
Familiar with LANL's organizational structure, technical areas, operations, and facilities.
Experience with project management and metrics practices and tools.
Familiarity with Human Performance Improvement (HPI) concepts and application of HPI tools.
Essential Job Functions: (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Ability to speak, Sitting, Standing, Reaching overhead, Typing or keyboarding, and occasionally climbing stairs and ladders.
Work Environment: Frequent use of safety glasses or eye protection, safety shoes or protective foot-gear, hearing protection, and PPE used in radiological facilities requiring dosimetry - work near sources of ionizing, and non-ionizing, radiation.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Work Schedule: This position oversees 24/7 operations and may occasionally require work outside of first shift schedule.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, October 31st. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
