The Advanced Research team (ADR) is an interdisciplinary group of economists, data scientists, psychologists, and research scientists. Embedded strategically within the People Analytics, Technology, and Operations Excellence (PATOE) org, ADR is dedicated to developing innovative, science-backed, and scalable solutions that support over 1 million employees worldwide.

We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission of making Amazon Earth's Best Employer. You will lead pioneering projects from concept to reality, fostering bold new ideas, transforming these into actionable insights and science-driven tools for Amazon leaders. Collaborating with other scientists and leaders across PXT, Operations, and across Amazon, you'll innovate science-backed proto@types that make meaningful impact on the employee experience, and partner with engineers to put successful ones in production.

Key job responsibilities

Own the design, development, and maintenance of scalable models and proto@types leveraging statistical, machine learning, or GenAI methodologies to enhance employee experience.

Partner with scientists, engineers, and product leaders to solve for employee experience defects using scientific approaches, building new services and tools that deliverable measurable impact.

Author and maintain detailed technical documentation related to the projects you drive.

Communicate results to diverse audiences of varying technical background with effective writing, visualizations, and presentations

Stay current with emerging methods and technologies, and implement them strategically to amplify the team's impact.

About the team

We are a close-knit and multidisciplinary science team sitting in PATOE, a technology, data, analytics, and science organization that supports over a million employees globally. We have a broad mix of domain specialists (Economics, Data Science, Research Science, I/O Psychology), experience levels and tenures. We emphasize supporting new members, knowledge creation, collaboration, and mentorship. Our work has broad scope and reach, spanning multiple teams and organizations, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Amazonians worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

2+ years of data scientist experience

3+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience

3+ years of machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance experience

Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language

Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
