The Department of Transportation is currently looking to hire a seasonal Transportation Construction Inspector. This role involves carrying out a range of technical responsibilities related to the inspection of materials and the quality of workmanship on highway and bridge construction projects within Engineering District 4-0. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for examining all aspects of transportation construction activities. You will assist in verifying grades, elevations, and the layout of structures and roadways in collaboration with contractors and surveyors.
Your duties will include inspecting the installation of various materials, including cement concrete, bituminous concrete, drainage components, and any other materials relevant to transportation construction.
You will conduct compaction testing using a visual non-movement method to assess the integrity of sub-surface layers, soils, aggregates, and similar materials.
Additionally, you will engage with Department personnel, as well as representatives from federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public to facilitate the successful management of the projects.
You may also be required to perform other related tasks as necessary.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Seasonal full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
