Our Nursing Assistants play a vital role by being patient-centered and building trust with our patient population by assisting with a variety of activities of daily living under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The selected candidate will perform various direct and indirect patient care services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of adult and geriatric patients with illnesses and conditions that are often underserved or difficult to manage in other health care settings. Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory over-time. /Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):/ Provides direct patient care including, but not limited to, vital signs, changing dressings, performing basic first aid, recording intake and output, applying ice packs and compresses, etc. Assigns work verbally and/or in writing to lower-level Nursing Assistants and reviews performance for effectiveness. Assists in orientation and instruction of other nursing personnel including nursing assistant techniques, procedures, and equipment. Provides supervision to new employees during probationary period. Offers physical support to assist patients to perform daily living activities, including but not limited to, getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, toileting, standing, or walking to promote patient wellness. Makes observations regarding patient behavior and physical changes and reports them to appropriate nursing personnel according to unit policies and procedures. Transports and positions patients using unit equipment and proper body mechanics to prevent injury to patients or self. Records and documents information in patient records according to current nursing policy to ensure quality and continuity of patient care. Participates in patient care conferences and staff meetings, and quality assurance activities etc., as required to share information and make recommendations for rehabilitation and treatment plans. Refer patients social and economic needs to social service and make recommendations for patient personal needs. Provides schedule rotation as needed and with other clinical care units as necessary to provide patient safety on all units and shifts. /Required Qualifications:/ Demonstrated ability to understand written/oral instructions and work as a team member. Skilled in empathizing with patients and communicating effectively. Ability to display sensitivity and respect regarding a patients' cultural and religious preferences/needs. Capacity to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress /Preferred Qualifications:/ Certification as a Nurse Aide under the Massachusetts Nurse Aide Registry. Demonstrated competency appropriate to the age of patients served. Capacity to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, visitors, and medical staff. Skilled in demonstrating situational awareness, compassion, and attention to detail with readiness to respond appropriately when needed. Talent for assisting and working with people of diverse backgrounds. Skilled in the ability to provide supervision, guidance, and instruction, including assigning and reviewing work, monitoring progress, and evaluating performance.
