JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary/Overview This assignment is for a
mechanical or industrial engineer in a manufacturing role. The
assignment is for a minimum of one semester and summer (part-time
interns will also be considered). It supports several business needs:
Continuous improvement in manufacturing operations including safety,
cost quality and delivery; Increased manufacturing capacity and
flexibility to support production surge requirements; Launch of
components for new model requirements; Problem solving of daily
production and equipment issues; Development of future manufacturing
engineering resource. Key Learning Objectives Operation of modern
manufacturing plant Understanding of machining or assembly operation
Principles of continuous improvement Interaction of multiple departments
(manufacturing, purchasing, quality, shipping, etc.)
Functional/Technical Development Opportunities Machining Positions -
Understanding of machining processes, cutting tools, and geometric
tolerancing Assembly Positions - Design of cell layouts, new model
launch and integration, and development of work standards Interactions
of machining and assembly Problem solving skills Will this assignment
have cross-functional opportunities? Yes. As a Manufacturing Engineering
co-op, the student will be exposed to Safety, Quality, Productivity, and
continuous improvement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Revising
and updating standard operating procedures and work instructions
Creating new process documentation, time studies, and work standards
Drafting cell layout Assists with mechanical design improvements for
assembly and machining processes utilizing CAD software. Conducting
machine capability studies Testing of process and tooling changes Assist
operators in identifying and resolving process issues Investigating and
resolving quality issues Collecting quality and process data Completing
ergonomic assessments Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities A
team player with excellent communication skills. Ability to be flexible
and adjust priories to reflect changing needs or job demands. Strong
analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
Familiarity with statistical analysis preferred Exposure to AutoCAD /
SolidWorks preferred Experience with Microsoft Office Suite Required
Qualifications A junior or senior college student pursuing a Mechanical
or Industrial Engineering Degree Two years of mechanical or industrial
engineering education GPA 2.8 or higher preferred EOE/AA
