Job Title: Cost AccountantJob Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activities, including raw material purchases, inventory, and labor. You will analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided to determine the effects on cost, and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs. Additionally, you will assist with inventory valuation, month-end close of the general ledger, and the development and maintenance of standardized performance reporting.
Responsibilities
Plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory, and labor.
Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided to determine effects on cost.
Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures.
Analyze audits of costs and prepare reports.
Make estimates of new and proposed product costs.
Prepare quotations for the cost of large projects and conduct post-close-out analysis.
Provide management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
Maintain the Cost Accounting System.
Assist with inventory valuation and reporting, including physical inventory and cycle count programs and excess and obsolescence analysis.
Assist with month-end close of the general ledger.
Develop and maintain a standardized reporting database used for internal performance reporting.
Prepare internal monthly performance charts and external Monthly Performance Review (MPR) charts.
Reconcile finished goods inventories.
Compile project costs and analyze variances.
Travel to manufacturing facilities as needed.
Essential Skills
3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, pricing analysis, or cost accounting.
Experience in manufacturing inventory accounting, which directly translates to cost accounting and pricing.
Experience managing own projects and processes.
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and queries.
Experience in the manufacturing industry.
Strong financial analysis, cost accounting, and pricing skills.
Experience with month-end close processes and reconciliation.
Knowledge of ERP systems and budgeting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Longevity and tenure in previous roles.
Ability to work with engineers, sales, purchasing, master data, and factory teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and confidence in asking for help when needed.
Work Environment
You will work in a collaborative environment alongside engineers, sales, purchasing, master data, and factory teams. The team is small, offering ample growth opportunities. The company values new ideas and encourages employees to contribute to change. Flexible working hours are available, with options to work from 7-4, 8-5, or 9-6. Training will be provided with a one-month learning curve. Although there is currently no bonus structure, the company is working on implementing one. The work environment is supportive, allowing for significant personal and professional development.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $41.00/hr.
