Chenango County's Information Technology Department has an immediate opening for an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT TECHNICIAN. This is a position in the Chenango County Information Technology Department involving responsibility for assisting a higher-level Information Technology staff member with the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of information technology hardware and software, and other general Information Technology operations duties. An employee in this class sets up and deploys new PCs and peripheral equipment. The incumbent may act as a first point of contact for general PC user support and troubleshooting. Given the @types of secure information to which an incumbent will have access to, such as disciplinary proceeding and labor negotiations data, the ability to maintain confidentially is essential in this position. Detailed instructions are given for new and unusual assignments. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Senior Network Technician or other higher-level Information Technology Department employee in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures. Supervision over the work of others is not a responsibility of employees in this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. Possession of an Associates Degree, or higher, in Information Systems Management, Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related field; OR B. Successful completion of at least thirty (30) semester credit hours which included at least twelve (12) credit hours in Information Systems Management, Computer Science. Information Technology or a closely related field AND one (1) year of full-time paid work experience or its part-time equivalent, gained within the past five (5) years, which involved the operation and maintenance of personal computers or mobile devices AND the resolution of software and hardware problems pertaining to these devices; OR C. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND two (2) years of full-time paid work experience or its part-time equivalent, gained within the past five (5) years, which involved the operation and maintenance of personal computers or mobile devices AND the resolution of software and hardware problems pertaining to these devices.

NOTES: 1 .Successful completion of a course of study offered by a technical training institute, college or a corporate training program may be substituted for the twelve (12) semester credit hours in college-level management information systems, computer science, computer technology, information resource management, data processing or related computer fields; OR one (1) year of appropriate experience, if the following conditions are met: a.) The course of training involves learning the fundamental aspects of computer programming, systems analysis, telecommunications systems, WAN system configuration or a similar course with technical emphasis on the operation of a connected computer system, b.) The candidate provides an official description of the coursework and evidence that it was successfully completed. 2. Coursework in the use of specific programs such as WORD, EXCEL or ACCESS and data entry is NOT acceptable as completion of a course of study offered by a technical training institute, college or a corporate training program.
