The Role

This position is for the E22 CVN68 Class Structural Group supporting both RCOH and Fleet Support work. The position will regularly interface with waterfront trades, other engineering departments, and government personnel.

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;

Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;

Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Prior experience in Nimitz Class Carrier design and specifically RCOH products and processes with a structural analysis background is preferred.

FEA experience is preferred, along with experience in AutoCAD, MathCAD, and SAP. Knowledge of weld sizing, processes, and non-destructive testing. Experience with GSO (General Specifications for Overhaul of Surface Ships) preferred.

Willingness and ability to support production teams in various settings and scenarios is preferred.
