Overview:The Director shall have the primary responsibility and authority for the administration of the assigned program (Level One or Level Two). The Director will engage in ongoing planning, systematic development, implementation and evaluation in relationship to the philosophy and graduate competencies of the ADN or PN programs. She or he is responsible to the Dean of Health Sciences. The Director position will have no teaching responsibilities and shall confine her (or his) activities to the educational program and shall not be a part of routine clinical expectations.
The Director of the Practical Nursing (Level One) or Associate Degree (Level Two) Program shall meet the qualifications specified by the State Board of Nursing minimum standards for accreditation.
The Director is expected to work a minimum of 40 hour work week. This position is considered an administrative position and has no teaching load. The primary responsibilities are to oversee the Level one or two programs on all campuses. There is travel involved with this position.
Essential Duties:

The Director will:
Make recommendations to the Dean of Health Sciences for the distribution of needed funds and to maintain budget files and reports.
Ensures course syllabi are posted on LMS.
Ensures attendance and grade reports are completed by faculty.
Coordinate and recommend in-service training /professional development for professional staff members and faculty.
Assist coordinators with recruitment and selection of new staff members for his/her program.
Make recommendations to the Dean of Health Sciences concerning the development and scheduling of classes and/or programs.
Assist the coordinators as needed with counseling individual students regarding academic standing, absenteeism, clinical performance and/or personal needs as necessary (according to program policy).
Participate in and assist with coordination of graduation/pinning activities.
Assist in recruitment and marketing for the program.
Compiles and communicates to Dean of Health Sciences outcomes assessment reports:
a. Program review
b. Plan of action/course matrix
c. Data appropriate for budget requests
Ensure graduate and employer follow-up surveys (6-month or as appropriate) are sent and results analyzed.
Coordinates admission and selection processes, including the admission committee meeting actions.
Chair monthly staff meetings and document actions taken.
Ensures appropriate student transcripts are compiled for graduates and maintained for applicants.
Collaborate with the Level (one or two) Nursing Coordinator(s) to create semester schedules and calendars.
Assist coordinator with arranging for coverage regarding faculty absence.
Collaborate with faculty and coordinator regarding course loads. Communicate concerns to Dean of Health Sciences.
Oversees plans for remediation at all campuses.
Coordinate communication with pre-nursing students regarding program events, student requirements, etc.
Evaluate administrative assistants and staff.
Oversees orientation of new nursing students every semester.
Ensures new faculty complete orientation.
Coach and assist faculty in regards to pedagogy and andragogy forms of instruction.
Oversees cooperative agreements with clinical sites.
Initiates regulatory requirements (testing applications, etc.) for students.
Chairs monthly coordinator meeting.
Ensures preparation for MSBN visit and completion of required reports including response to survey concerns.
Submits faculty pay authorization to Dean of Health Sciences.
Collaborates with Dean of Health Sciences on issues not easily resolved.
Advises Dean of Health Sciences of issues affecting nursing or health science division faculty.
Advocates for health science division and acts as a liaison between administrators and faculty and between divisions.
Represents Health Science Division at institutional wide the meetings as assigned.
Chairs Health Science Division meeting as assigned.
Routinely keeps Dean of Health Sciences informed of progress and challenges.
Actively participates in professional nursing organizations.
Coordinates communication with navigators and pre-nursing students regarding program events and changes in student requirements.
Participates in student success team meetings.
Communicates college and departmental polices and program operational decisions to coordinators and faculty.
Addresses student issues with Dean of Health Sciences prior to any dismissal.
Generates student letter of dismissal.
Approves faculty and staff leave reports for absences per college requirements.
Completes faculty classroom observations and evaluations including scheduled and unscheduled visits to the classroom.
Ensures drug testing dates are set and addresses results as needed.
Counsels students who do not meet admission requirements (such as background check issues) as needed.
Oversees personnel issues including recommending hiring and disciplinary actions.
Maintains the faculty credential process and database for nursing department.
Maintains lead instructor course listing.
Addresses student concerns including appeals.
Assists with evaluation of master course shells, current class shells, and Learning Management System gradebook usage.

Qualifications:
Education:
Meet minimum standards for State Board approval, including a Masters Degree in Nursing. The Director may be working toward completion of a Masters if approved by MO State Board of Nursing and the completion plan acceptable with SFCC Dean of Health Sciences. Shall have a Masters Degree in Nursing with a clinical component in either the Bachelors of Science in Nursing or Masters with major in Nursing.
Skills:
Shall be currently licensed to practice as a registered professional nurse in Missouri. Nursing license cannot ever have been disciplined. Should be active in professional nursing organizations. Current BLS/CPR. Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, demonstrate evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrate student centeredness, be able to interact with a broad range of people with diverse backgrounds both on and off campus in a positive manner, demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college.
