Position Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and optimizing manufacturing processes by analyzing product designs and production methods. This role focuses on improving efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness while ensuring smooth transitions of new products and technologies into production. The Manufacturing Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams and customers to support product development, solve production issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Development & Optimization:

Design, document, and improve manufacturing processes, including writing detailed manufacturing instructions and routings.

Develop and implement work instructions for manufacturing operations, ensuring consistency and quality across production lines.

New Product Integration:

Coordinate the successful transition of new products and technologies from design to production, ensuring manufacturability and scalability.

Support prototyping activities and collaborate in concurrent engineering design reviews to ensure production readiness.

Tooling & Equipment Design:

Design and procure tools, fixtures, and equipment necessary for efficient production.

Evaluate production tools and equipment for performance improvements and operational enhancements.

Production Support:

Monitor and coordinate production operations, ensuring adherence to established processes and quality standards.

Evaluate and solve production issues to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.

Project Management & Continuous Improvement:

Lead and participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives to reduce waste, improve processes, and enhance productivity.

Prepare and manage appropriation requests, quotes, and project documentation.

Compliance & Documentation:

Ensure all production processes comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including process validation (PFMEA, IQ/OQ/PQ).

Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including drawings, routings, and specifications.

Customer Engagement and Support:

Provide expert guidance on material selection, manufacturing processes, and magnet performance for customer-specific applications.

Serve as a point of contact for addressing customer inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and to understand their technical needs and product requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Experience.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with hands-on expertise in process development and validation.

Experience in Lean Manufacturing and proficiency in CAD software.

Strong knowledge of process and equipment validation (PFMEA, IQ/OQ/PQ).

Experience with the following a plus

Foundry (induction furnace) and castings

Magnetics

Grinding

Metallurgy

Heat Treating

Demonstrated ability to learn new processes quickly

Skills:

Strong project management skills, with the ability to take initiative and see projects through to completion.

Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to production challenges.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate across departments and convey technical information clearly.

Working conditions

May be exposed to industrial oils, solvents, coolants, adhesives, and other chemicals. All safety precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) are required.

The facility is climate-controlled, but some areas may have excessive noise, requiring ear protection.

Physical requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

Periodic lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.

Frequent walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching may be required.

Repetitive tasks involving manual dexterity may be part of the role.
