Data Scientists is a key role working in the Aftermarket Value Chain Demand Planning and Prioritized Service Event (PSE) team within Resource Industries Sales, Services & Technology (RISST). They will own the machine learning model Sunrise, support the data processing, implementing automation, and analytics while working with global demand planners, dealers, and business analysts. Proactive demand planning is foundational to achieving our "Right Part, Right Time" strategy, measured through "Delivered in Full On Time" (DIFOT). The role supports key analytics utilized in Resource Industries S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) aftermarket efforts around Demand Planning Component Coverage and Conformance, and aftermarket value chain data analytics (trending rebuild analytics, Sunrise - machine learning model, Lens Equipment etc.).
Teaming up with RISST, Product Support & Logistics Division (PSLD), Cat Digital, and Distribution & Service Divisions (DSDs), the global Demand Planning team works directly with our dealers on developing and deploying robust demand planning processes, measured through Pay for Excellence Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The team works in close collaboration with Cat Digital to develop and improve data analysis tools, and processes for demand planning and predictive capabilities.
What you will do:
Owner of Sunrise machine learning model that predicts major component rebuild forecasts cycles, and output is utilized by Resource Industries (RI) Strategy team, Prioritize Service Events (PSE) input, and demand planning process for dealers to plan rebuild forecasts
Works in collaboration with CAT Digital team to improve, incorporate improved features, and integrate Sunrise model with the Lens Equipment model
Runs the monthly process to create Sunrise results and publishes the reporting dashboard
Supports running the monthly data processing and gathering for the Proactive Integrated Supply Management (PRISM) [Plan for Every Serial Number (PLESN)] demand planning program, which sends signal to PSLD to support parts planning availability for rebuilds
Supports team automation of data collection processes and improvement project initiatives
Supports team with creating and maintaining key data tables that are consumed within the PRISM program
Supports and maintains processing key demand planning KPIs: PRISM (PLESN) Demand Planning Conformance (Pay for Excellence metric), etc.
Role supports many data driven analytics, and analysis that directly supports internal RI teams, dealers and customers while improving demand planning processes for critical component rebuilds
Supports multiple dashboards reporting demand planning trends, and key KPIs utilized to support "Right Part Right Time" strategy
Role supports quarterly data driven analytics that provides rebuild forecast outlook input for RI Aftermarket S&OP process
What skills you will have:
Programming Languages: Knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages. Highly skilled in Python, and SQL.
Business Statistics : Knowledge of the statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions.
Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Provide details around solutions to internal and external business teams when requested.
Machine Learning : Knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.
Query and Database Access Tools : Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.
Requirements Analysis : Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project. Dashboards ( Tableau, Power BI ), Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint , Snowflake or cloud data services. Highly skilled in research techniques, automation, data science, AI to drive business KPI results.
Effective Communications: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external business partners, including senior leaders. Excellent human relations skills to develop a collaborative environment with leadership and key stakeholders
Top Candidates will also have:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business, Economics, or a Related Degree Program with quantitative and technically challenging coursework.
Experience in any of the following areas: forecasting, demand planning, aftermarket parts sales, parts operations, parts inventory management, supply chain.
Expertise working with Cat dealers and/or customers
Cat business acumen (Product line, Parts line, Parts distribution).
Additional Information:
This position requires the candidate to work full-time in the Peoria, IL office.
This position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $155,400.00
