General Description:

Performs highly advanced and/or supervisory (senior-level) computer systems support work in a help desk setting. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may be considered technical experts in this field. Executes computer systems support work in a help desk setting involving providing first-line assistance for operational problems of agency information technology systems and automated office equipment in a stand-alone, network, or mainframe environment. This position is intended for employees who provide technical assistance and support related to computer systems, hardware, and software in a help desk setting. Employees are typically part of a multi-tiered help desk team. Collectively, these employees are able to take calls/emails from users; troubleshoot and manage relatively simple hardware, software or network problems; and research and resolve the most difficulty and complex problems.

Examples of Work Performed:

Works as part of a multi-tiered installation and support team, with the ability to troubleshoot and manage hardware, software or network problems; A knowledge of Windows Server Applications such as IIS, Microsoft SQL and .Net (ASP or MVC) programming is also desired but not mandatory.

Oversee in the delivery of technical support for agency employees and other end users to ensure that problems and requests have been appropriately documented and resolved timely; and provides assistance in researching and resolving escalated problems, which includes the most complex and/or critical technical problems.

Coordinates and oversees the setting up of equipment for employee use and performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.

Oversee scheduling, systems monitoring, and problem resolution of batch jobs.

Ability to adapt to changing technology as it may pertain to the development of future projects or to assist in current projects.

Capability to oversee and/or supervise the work of others.

Minimum Education and Experience:

At least 5 years experience computer systems support work, installing and repairing equipment and training staff on how to use equipment and software.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science or a related field is generally preferred.

Experience may be substituted for college education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of computer and network operations. Skill in troubleshooting technical issues and communicating technical material to others.

Ability to operate and train others to operate PC equipment, peripherals, and software.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, vendors, and other IT staff.

Ability to recognize, analyze, and resolve problems in a Windows environment, to write and revise standards and procedures.

Skill in the support of computers, in the use of applicable programs and systems, and in troubleshooting information systems.

Programming skills preferred.

Knowledge of SQL Server, ASP or MVC and previous creation of server-side applications a plus.

Ability to handle multiple projects.

Ability to operate information technology systems and to communicate effectively.

Willingness to work in a field (test barn) and racetrack environment

Willingness to work weekends and holidays and travel as needed to support the agency mission, at agency expense.

Experience in governmental/regulatory practice is beneficial but not required
