Tax Accountant

Johnson City, TN

General Shale, the nation's leading brick and masonry materials manufacturer, is seeking a Tax Accountant to join our corporate office in Johnson City. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset and experience in tax compliance and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze financial data and identify trends

Prepare and review monthly sales and use tax filings

Assist with annual state franchise and excise tax filings

Assist with annual state and federal income tax filings

Research U.S. and international tax issues

Perform monthly testing of internal procedures related to sales and use tax compliance

Maintain tax fixed asset records

Assist in calculating deferred income tax provisions for a consolidated tax group

Support internal and external audits (e.g., sales and use tax, tangible personal property)

Utilize financial and tax software, including SAP S/4, SAP BI, GoSystems RS, Fixed Assets CS, and Sovos Taxware

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required

Strong understanding of general accounting principles

Experience preparing and reviewing sales and use tax returns

Experience with state franchise, excise, and income tax filings preferred

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

High level of attention to detail and accuracy

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications

Experience with tax or financial software systems preferred
