About
My name is Sophia Novak. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Family and Child Studies, with a concentration in Family, Children, and School Settings. I have also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching, with specializations in Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education, and a Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS).
I have significant experience in special education, having worked within the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) school systems in Misawa, Japan, and Yigo, Guam. In my capacity as a special education teacher and case manager, I collaborated closely with general education teachers and other educational specialists to effectively implement students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Our team held weekly meetings to share insights, address concerns, and set goals, which enhanced our ability to support our students in reaching their academic potential. As a case manager, I coordinated the delivery of special education services and served as the primary contact for students' parents or guardians. I ensured compliance with procedural requirements for special education, facilitated communication among home, school, and external agencies, and scheduled all IEP-related team meetings.
In addition to my work in special education, I served as Chief English Teacher in a Japanese school. In this leadership role, I was responsible for overseeing the schedules of English teachers, participating in hiring and recruitment processes, serving as a liaison between the principal and English faculty, providing staff training, and developing the English program curriculum.
While my experience primarily stems from educational settings, I am confident that the skills and expertise I have acquired are transferable to various professional environments. I am eager to explore opportunities that allow me to expand my career beyond traditional classroom settings.
