JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for the overall financial management and administrative operations of one of Utah's largest and fastest-growing fire districts. The Finance Director provides strategic financial leadership while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing public finance.

This position is responsible for overseeing:

Budget development and long-range financial planning

General accounting and financial reporting

Payroll and benefits administration

Human Resources administration

Internal controls and risk management

Annual audits

Board administration and District Clerk responsibilities

Public records management

Capital planning

Investment management

Policy development

Grant and financial compliance

As Weber Fire District continues to grow through regional partnerships and annexations, this position will play an important role in helping guide the District's future.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance (with an accounting emphasis), or a closely related field. Candidates must have completed significant upper-division coursework in accounting.

Minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible accounting or financial management experience

Demonstrated experience preparing and managing complex budgets

Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment

Must be bondable

Preferred Qualifications

Highly qualified candidates may also possess one or more of the following:

Government accounting experience

Special district, municipal, county, or public safety finance experience

Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM)

Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) training or certification

Experience with public budgeting under Utah law

Experience managing payroll and employee benefits

Human Resources experience

Experience serving as a District Clerk or Board Clerk

Experience coordinating annual independent audits

Experience with capital projects and debt financing

Experience implementing or improving internal controls

Experience supervising administrative staff

Experience with grant administration and reimbursement programs

Experience with records management and public records laws (GRAMA)

Experience working directly with elected officials and governing boards
