The Town of Massena Electric Department (MED) has an open- ing for a full-time building maintenance worker - 40 hours per week. Residency requirement: Under the residency requirement, all employees of the Department must live within a 20-mile radius of Massena Electrics offices at 71 E. Hatfield St., Massena, NY within one year of successful completion of the 26-week probationary period. Pre-employment physical and drug testing required. Must submit to ongoing random drug testing. Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a CDL Class B (commercial drivers license) to perform the duties of the position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to daily cleaning, vac- uuming and mopping of MED facilities; outdoor seasonal mainte- nance including plowing of office parking areas and substations, shoveling, mowing and raking; assisting with preventive mainte- nance of heating/cooling systems. May also assist the electrical inventory clerk as necessary. This position may involve work to be completed outside of normal business hours in cases of foul weath- er and/or emergency situations.

Candidates should possess knowledge of building and grounds maintenance/repair practices. Successful applicants will be capable of working independently, be able to follow oral and written instruc- tions, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, develop safe work habits, follow pre-established work safety requirements and use hand and power tools safely.

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equiv- alency diploma is required. Minimum of one (1) year experience in building construction, maintenance, or repair work in one or more of the standard building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, etc. also required. Post probationary pay rate is $24.90/hour.
