Education: **Minimum qualifications require licensure as an LPN in the state of Ohio. A nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure as an LPN in the state of Ohio preferred.

Experience:** At least 2 years hospital or community mental health experience treating severely mentally disabled clients.

Qualifications:** Must demonstrate strong nursing skills in assessment and treatment with consumers. General nursing skills shall be used to effectively assess and triage consumer's needs both psychiatrically and medically. Shall have the ability to respond to medical emergencies that may arise within the agency until community responders arrive. Able to manage and track many tasks simultaneously as well as demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, patience, organization, and have openness to the individuality of others as well as strong oral and writing skills. Knowledgeable of agency and community resources and how to apply available resources to meet the needs of consumers. Able to assess risk and collaboratively formulate crisis intervention plans to intervene in situations which are emergent. Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel). Must possess a valid driver's license.

Position Summary:** The Psychiatric Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team made up of psychiatrists, nursing and support staff who work within the medical-somatic services at the agency. The Psychiatric Nurse assesses the consumer's psychiatric and medical needs and develops clinical treatment plans to address the needs. He/ she assists consumers in understanding and managing their medication regimens and provides education to consumers on a broad range of psychiatric and general medical conditions. The Psychiatric Nurse may act as an advocate for the consumers in trying to coordinate medical care along with psychiatric care from community providers. He/ she shall utilize clinical skills of assessing and treating mental and emotional disorders with the goal of helping consumers reach the highest level of independent functioning and personal recovery. The Psychiatric Nurse may provide services in the community as well as at the agency in the event a consumer would benefit from receiving care in an alternative location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

Work collaboratively with the Head Psychiatric Nurse to assess needs of the department such as scheduling, ordering necessary medical supplies, monitoring use of Central Pharmacy and Patient Assistance Programs.

Maintain secure access of the medication room.

Provide general nursing assessment of consumer's medical and psychiatric needs.

Provide medication education and information related to medication side-effects.

Complete phone orders for medications as directed by the psychiatrists.

Complete ordering of Central Pharmacy medications and distribute to consumers as directed by the psychiatrists. Track orders to ensure accuracy and return unused medications to Central Pharmacy.

Complete and update treatment plans.

Complete outcome assessments with clients.
