Under Limisted Supervision, the Fleet Foreman oversees and performs maintenance and repairs on the City's fleet. THis position serves as a working supervisor, coordinating the daily operations of Fleet Maintenance Technicians, assigning tasks, and ensuring timely and cost-effective repairs. The Foreman enforces safety regulations and maintains accurate records in fleet management software. The Foreman provides on-call support for emergency repairs and assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Fleet Administrator.

Functions as a working supervisor performing regular maintenance and repair of City owned light duty (class 1-2), Medium Duty (Class 3-6), heavy Duty (Class 7-8), and heavy equipment

Directs work activities performed by the Fleet Maintenance Technicians, providing technical support, training and ensuring timely completion of tasks.

Assists with personnel management and may provide feedback regarding areas of deficiency and recommend corrective action.

Coordinates with the Fleet Coordinator to add new vehicles to the fleet and report repair statuses to City departments.

Accurately records and reviews service details, work orders, and repair logs in City's fleet management software.

Trains new and seasoned employees in mechanical techniques and procedures.

Coordinates the ordering of specialized parts and materials with the parts stock clerk.

Oversees general shop maintenance to ensure tools and equipment are operational.

Enforces safety protocol, city policies, and state and federal fleet operation regulations.

Ensures maintenance and repairs are cost-effective without compromising quality or safety.

Assists in developing and implementing preventive maintenance schedules to extend vehicle lifespan and reduce major repair costs.

In conjunction with the Fleet Administrator, prepares specifications and requests for quotes/proposals for maintenance and repair services and identifies suitable vendors.

Upholds the city values in consideration of repair vs. replacement; cost factors, quality/lifespan of the item(s); writes specifications

Reports daily tasks, updates, and concerns to the Fleet Administrator and assists with their duties as needed.

Assists the Fleet Administrator with budget preparation and recommends efficiency improvements.

Ensures all employees remain up to date on their required certifications.

Provides on-call support for emergencies and major fleet breakdowns, including after-hours calls , and organizes emergency repair crews when necessary.

Performs all work duties during emergencies or in the Fleet Administrator's absence.

Performs other duties as assigned

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in fleet maintenance or vehicle repair, including three (3) years in a supervisory or lead role.

Must possess and maintain one (1) of the following:

ASE Heavy-Duty certifications in Diesel Engines, Brakes, Suspension and Steering and Electrical/Electronic Systems OR

State of Michigan certifications in Heavy-duty truck repair categories: Engine repair-diesel, brakes and braking systems, suspension and steering systems, and electrical systems.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Commercial Driver License (CDL), Group (A) with airbrakes.

Knowledge of varied @types of equipment used in operations, i.e., sewer jets, packer trucks, and street sweepers.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective working relationships with City Council, City staff, vendors, and the public.

Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
