The City of Casper is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Accountant to join our Financial Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys meaningful work, variety, and the stability of public service while contributing to the sound financial management of our community.

Assigned to Financial Services at Casper City Hall, this position works as part of an experienced and collaborative team supporting accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, grants, internal controls, and the City's annual audit. The Accountant compiles, reviews, reconciles, and analyzes financial information; prepares financial statements and reports; assists with revenue and expenditure forecasting; and provides financial guidance to departments throughout the organization.

A typical day may include reconciling accounts and reviewing financial transactions for accuracy, researching and resolving accounting discrepancies, assisting departments with financial questions, monitoring budgets, reviewing grant-related financial activity, preparing reports, or supporting annual budget and audit activities.

You'll apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting concepts while helping ensure the City's financial information is accurate, reliable, and compliant.

We're looking for someone who can work independently while also being a strong team partner. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, comfortable working with detailed financial information, and able to explain accounting and financial concepts clearly to employees and managers who may not have an accounting background.

What you'll bring:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field

Minimum of two years of accountant-level experience, preferably in a governmental setting

Knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, internal controls, budgeting, and financial analysis

Ability to examine and verify financial records, identify discrepancies, and develop appropriate solutions

Strong analytical, mathematical, written, and verbal communication skills

Experience with automated financial systems and Microsoft Office or similar business applications

Grant-related experience is preferred

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Wyoming driver's license is preferred
