Job Title: Laborer Mechanical Installer (Solar Construction)
Job Description
This role supports the construction of a large-scale solar farm by installing piles, racking systems, and solar modules as part of dedicated field crews. You will work outdoors in a fast-paced, production-driven environment, using power and hand tools to complete mechanical installations safely, accurately, and efficiently across a large project site.
Responsibilities
Work as part of one of three primary installation crews: Pile Install, Racking Install, or Module Install, based on project needs.
Assist with unloading trucks and moving materials such as piles, racking components, and solar modules from the laydown yard to designated work locations.
Support pile installation by helping with layout, handling piles from lifts to installation points, and working with equipment operators to drive piles to GPS-specified locations.
Use tape measures and other basic tools to verify pile heights and positions, ensuring piles are installed to correct elevations and locations.
Walk and work across the full project area, covering extensive acreage while installing piles, racking, and modules throughout the solar farm.
Assist the racking crew by unloading trucks with mechanical or racking equipment and gathering racking materials, nuts, and bolts from the laydown yard.
Read blueprints or follow foreman guidance to understand proper installation methods for racking systems and ensure accurate assembly.
Use power drills and hand tools to torque and secure racking components, measuring distances between racks to confirm proper spacing and alignment.
Perform spot quality control checks on racking systems to confirm that installations meet project standards and specifications.
Support the module install team by assisting operators in unloading solar modules, staging them in the laydown yard, and moving them to installation workstations.
Lift and handle solar modules weighing approximately 2530 pounds repeatedly during installation onto racking systems.
Install modules by placing bolts or screws into appropriate holes and using power drills and hand tools to secure modules to the racking at a fast, consistent pace.
Meet daily production goals by working efficiently and maintaining a steady workflow in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
Perform general construction labor tasks such as site clearing, earthwork support, material receipt, and site maintenance as assigned.
Support activities related to construction surveying, temporary dust control, cleaning and waste management, and site upkeep.
Assist with tasks associated with steel pile installation and other structural elements as needed.
Work around and support teams performing solar-related electrical work such as DC and AC underground feeders, trenching and backfill, combiner box work, PV skid electrical, DC string wiring, and cable pulling, as directed.
Contribute to the installation of rough and final PV racking and PV modules in accordance with project codes and standards.
Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working in a non-residential construction environment, including safe use of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Maintain accurate awareness of materials and inventory when unloading, staging, and tracking components from delivery through installation.
Support commissioning and final project activities by keeping work areas organized, clean, and ready for inspection.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of construction experience in a field or site-based environment.
At least 1 year of experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Experience unloading trucks, staging materials, and supporting inventory tracking on construction sites.
Ability to repeatedly lift and carry 25 pounds or more throughout the workday.
At least 1 year of experience using power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-driven environment with daily output goals.
Ability to walk and work on uneven ground and large outdoor sites for the duration of the shift.
Basic ability to use tape measures and perform simple measurements to verify installation accuracy.
Willingness to work as part of a crew and follow directions from foremen and equipment operators.
Reliability and readiness to work full shifts in outdoor construction conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with general labor in construction, including site clearing, earthwork support, and site maintenance.
Experience with solar installation, racking, or module installation is beneficial.
Familiarity with mechanical installation tasks such as steel pile handling and racking assembly.
Experience supporting electrical or solar-related work such as cable pulling, DC and AC trenching and backfill, and work around combiner boxes and PV skids.
Ability to read or learn to interpret basic construction drawings or blueprints under guidance.
Experience working with or around heavy equipment operators during unloading and installation activities.
Comfort working on large, open-air project sites with significant walking and physical activity.
Strong attention to detail for spot quality checks and adherence to installation standards.
