The Nursing Supervisor assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care provided to all residents during the assigned shift. The position protects and promotes resident rights, manages the facility in accordance with its philosophy and professional nursing standards, and ensures compliance with applicable State and Federal requirements. The Nursing Supervisor uses nursing resources efficiently and applies the nursing process to assess emergent and non-emergent resident and visitor situations. When other nursing management is absent, the position is responsible for discipline, scheduling, supply allocation, complaint reports, and assisting nursing staff as needed.

Essential Duties

Assume responsibility and accountability for nursing care of all residents on the assigned shift.

Protect and promote resident rights.

Manage facility operations in accordance with facility philosophy and professional nursing standards.

Maintain compliance with State and Federal rules and regulations.

Utilize nursing and facility resources efficiently.

Apply the nursing process to assess emergent and non-emergent resident and visitor situations.

In the absence of other nursing management:

Address employee discipline.

Manage or assist with scheduling.

Appropriate and manage nursing supplies.

Prepare or manage complaint reports.

Assist nursing staff with resident care as required.

Communicate and work effectively with residents, staff, families, interdisciplinary team members, and government officials, including State surveyors and ombudsmen.

Establish and carry out priorities while exercising appropriate judgment.

Respond to emergency situations and resident-care needs.

Perform required physical activities associated with resident care and facility operations.

Required Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Licensure

Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Michigan.

License must have no restrictions.

Preferred Experience

Prior experience in long-term care in a supervisory capacity.

Additional Functional Requirements

Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing/walking, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, and responding quickly to emergencies.

Ability to work in a 24-hour residential care environment, including shift rotation, weekends, and holidays.
