About the Role:
Join TAI as a Construction Licensing & Business Compliance Manager and play a key role in supporting complex construction operations across multiple states and jurisdictions. This position serves as the central hub for contractor licensing, regulatory compliance, business registrations, and prequalification efforts, helping ensure projects are positioned for success from pursuit through execution. You'll collaborate with leaders across operations, legal, finance, risk, and procurement to build and maintain the compliance infrastructure that enables business growth and market expansion.

Here's a glimpse into your day to day:
Licensing, registrations and market expansion
Administer contractor licenses, business registrations, foreign qualifications, trade names, certificates of good standing and related renewals.
Research state and local licensing, registration and filing requirements before TAI bids, contracts or mobilizes in a new jurisdiction.
Maintain a jurisdictional requirements matrix documenting authoritative sources, responsible parties, required approvals, filing status, expiration dates and unresolved questions.
Coordinate applications requiring qualifying individuals, examinations, financial statements, bonds, affidavits or officer signatures.
Provide leadership with documented readiness status, identified risks and recommended actions; escalate novel or material interpretation questions to Legal or outside advisors.
Contract and insurance compliance coordination
Review client contracts, subcontracts, bid documents and related materials to identify licensing, registration, insurance, tax, reporting and prequalification obligations.
Maintain obligation trackers and coordinate completion with the responsible functional teams.
Route legal interpretation, negotiation and contract-approval matters to Legal & Contracts.
Coordinate COIs, endorsements and client insurance documentation; verify documentation against requirements established by contracts and Risk/Insurance.
Escalate coverage gaps, waiver requests, claims matters and risk-acceptance decisions to the appropriate authority.
Tax and financial-document coordination
Partner with Accounting/Tax to collect project and jurisdictional facts relevant to sales/use tax, exemption certificates and registration requirements.
Maintain assigned supporting documentation and provide status information for audits or customer requests.
Defer taxability, nexus, return preparation, filing, remittance and tax-position decisions to Accounting/Tax or designated external advisors.
Prequalification and external coordination
Coordinate TAI's customer, owner, government and third-party contractor prequalification submissions.
Gather required information from Finance, Operations, Safety, Risk/Insurance, Procurement and leadership and confirm that functional owners approve information before submission.
Maintain contractor-registration and qualification profiles in customer and third-party systems.
Serve as the routine administrative contact for licensing boards, governmental agencies, registered agents, insurers, brokers and external compliance providers.
Coordinate material regulatory inquiries, inspections, disputes or enforcement matters with Legal and leadership.
Controls, reporting and continuous improvement
Maintain a centralized compliance calendar, database and auditable record repository.
Monitor regulatory and administrative changes that may affect assigned licensing, registration or filing obligations and communicate documented impacts.
Develop procedures, checklists, approval logs and internal controls for assigned compliance processes.
Coordinate audit evidence and regulatory reporting and track corrective actions through closure.
Prepare periodic dashboards showing license status, upcoming deadlines, pending jurisdictions, material risks and open corrective actions.
Identify recurring process gaps and recommend practical improvements.
You'll be a perfect fit if you have:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Accounting, Legal Studies, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience, paralegal training, or relevant certifications may be considered.
5-8+ years of progressive experience in contractor licensing, business compliance, contract administration, risk management, insurance compliance, tax administration, or a related function.
Experience managing multi-state licensing, business registrations, renewals, filings, and compliance requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
Experience reviewing contracts and identifying licensing, regulatory, insurance, tax, and compliance obligations.
Working knowledge of construction contracts, certificates of insurance (COIs), customer prequalification processes, insurance documentation, risk management principles, and sales/use tax concepts.
Construction, engineering, general contracting, specialty contracting, or project-based professional services experience strongly preferred.
Strong research, organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively across departments while recognizing when legal, tax, insurance, or executive escalation is required.
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay: $100,000-130,000 annually (depending upon experience).
