Summary The Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician - Paramedic position is assigned to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Transportation Services (VTS), Ambulance Service in Asheville, NC with emergency room, acute care or urgent care clinic, or other similar departments performing basic and advanced life support procedures. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION The major duties include but are not limited to: Oversees all aspects of the Ambulance Services Program (ASP); Performs the full range of supervisory responsibilities to include but not limited to creates, adjusts and approves ASP employee schedules as well as reviewing and approving leave requests; interviews candidates for positions and recommends appointment, promotion or reassignment; observes performance and develops performance standards; resolves formal and informal complaints; prepares and recommends awards or bonuses; provides advice and counsel related to work and administrative matters; assures subordinates are trained, etc.; Prepares forecasts of funds needed for equipment, materials and supplies; Responds to on-site accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses; Determines and prioritizes appropriate medical treatment/procedures; Performs patient triage and records patient's vital signs; Administers basic and advanced life support care at emergency scene in accordance with established medical standards; Provides fluid resuscitation by IV and manages trauma injuries; Operates or utilizes various emergency vehicles and emergency/medical equipment; Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; Operates the emergency transport vehicle and uses telephone and radio communications equipment and systems; Assists in lifting and carrying patients into or out of transport vehicles and into treatment facility; and, Performs all other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Supervisory Paramedics may work rotating shifts, including holidays, and are subject to occasional recall to maintain adequate coverage of the Emergency Department and ambulance service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Positions in this series range widely in @type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is serving as a lead/supervisor and technical advisor pertaining to emergency medical services; performing the duties and responsibilities of a paramedic that includes but is not limited to responding to accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illness; supervising and/or administering life-sustaining aid to patients; performing patient triage and employing a variety of advanced emergency medicine procedures during transport; planning the work of other paramedics and subordinate staff members; and observing workers' performance and conducting performance evaluations. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~ Education: Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an internship where it is directly related to the work of the Supervisory Medical Care Transportation Technician position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. This is not a timed test, however, the assessment is expected to take approximately 45 minutes or less to complete. The assessment for this application does not include a cut score for a minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. However, you must answer each item in the assessment. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.
