Senior Staff Accountant Company: Gary Merlino Construction Co., Inc. (GMCC) Location: Seattle, WA Employment Type: Full-Time About Us Gary Merlino Construction Co., Inc. (GMCC) is a heavy civil construction and materials company operating across the greater Seattle area, with divisions including Stoneway Concrete, Kangley Rock & Recycle, and others. We're looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to support financial reporting and accounting operations across our family of companies. About the Role The Senior Staff Accountant will play a key role in the monthly close process, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting across multiple divisions within the GMCC family of companies. This role is well-suited for someone with strong technical accounting skills who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-division construction environment. You'll get your hands in a little bit of everything, from Accounting to HR & Operations, as part of a lean, cross-functional accounting team. Key Responsibilities

Prepare and post journal entries; perform general ledger reconciliations for assigned divisions

Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules

Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and job cost analysis

Reconcile intercompany transactions across GMCC's divisions

Maintain and analyze fixed asset schedules and depreciation

Support external audit and tax preparation requests

Assist with sales/use tax and excise tax filings

Identify and implement process improvements in accounting workflows

Collaborate with project accountants, operations, and division controllers

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

3+ years of progressive accounting experience; construction or job-cost industry experience strongly preferred

Proficiency with Sage 300 CRE, or similar construction accounting/ERP systems a plus

Strong Excel skills

Solid understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting

High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines

Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

CPA or progress toward CPA a plus, but not required
