Description

Our company is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Santa Monica, California on a Contract basis. This contract assignment is expected to last at least two months and will support essential accounting activities during an interim period. The role is ideal for someone who can manage daily financial tasks efficiently, maintain accurate records, and work effectively with internal stakeholders as well as an external property management partner.

Responsibilities:

Handle invoice processing and payment activities with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and proper documentation.

Maintain organized receipt records and supporting financial files to ensure complete and audit-ready documentation.

Complete regular bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies across monthly transaction activity.

Examine legal billing submissions, confirm correct coding, and route them to the appropriate internal contacts for follow-up.

Provide day-to-day accounting and administrative assistance to help maintain smooth financial operations.

Partner with a third-party property management company to support accounting coordination related to company properties.

Prepare journal entries and assist with general ledger maintenance to support accurate financial reporting.

Contribute to broader accounting tasks as needed in a fast-moving, team-oriented environment.

Requirements

Prior experience in a Staff Accountant or comparable accounting support position.

Practical knowledge of accounts payable workflows and bank reconciliation procedures.

Ability to manage detailed financial processes accurately while meeting deadlines.

Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, reconciliation, and reporting tasks.

Experience with accounting platforms such as MRI or a similar system is preferred.

Familiarity with journal entries, general ledger activity, and related accounting fundamentals.

Exposure to corporate tax, sales tax, or corporate tax return processes is a plus.
