Description
The hiring manager is looking to add a team member to support the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL) function within the bank's finance organization. The team is responsible for following CECL (Current Expected Credit Loss) guidelines and other regulatory requirements to determine loan loss reserves across the bank's portfolios. The role will focus on: Supporting the ACL process and calculations. Analyzing financial and portfolio data. Preparing reporting and presentations. Assisting with SEC reporting requirements. Ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting activities. OVERVIEW: Supports all accounting-related activities, projects, analysis and/or conversions for an assigned area outside Finance. Responsible for development and management of operational accounting control functions in support of the Bank's accounting systems for an assigned area, including maintaining accounting entry flow process to support accurate and timely reconciliation of all general ledger accounts and internal and/or external reporting of financial information and regulatory reporting. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the monthly closing of the general ledger for assigned area outside Finance, including analyzing and interpreting account fluctuations and monthly/quarterly reporting (could include manual processing). Support monthly variance analyses, reconciliations, tests of accounting data integrity and work paper review. Review accounting transaction documentation for completeness and accuracy; research account variances. Work with more experienced personnel in supporting the improvement and implementation of existing processes and new processes related to the accounting for various products that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. May support integration of acquired portfolios to the Bank's general ledger. May support creation of business requirements documents and functional requirements as well as test and implement these new requirements. Prepare accounting reports specific to assigned area in a timely and accurate manner. Assist with problem resolution and data interpretation, complete mechanical review and variance analysis, and ensure timely submission of reports. Complete accounting tasks in a manner compliant with applicable laws and regulations and/or that serve to help the Company be in compliance with laws and regulations that apply to the business line the position supports. Participate in departmental task and project planning and other administrative duties. Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The position works independently under general supervision. This position has interaction with internal Bank business partners as well as internal and external auditors with support of more experienced personnel. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Initial Training Period First 1-2 weeks focused on: Learning processes and workflows Understanding models and reporting requirements Shadowing team activities Ongoing Responsibilities Heavy use of Excel. Analyze and validate outputs from forecasting models. Compare and reconcile data between reporting periods. Prepare presentations and reporting materials. Review financial results for accuracy. Replicate quarterly reporting processes. Investigate significant changes in financial metrics and explain trends. Support SEC reporting activities and documentation. SEC Reporting The role assists with: SEC filings submitted through EDGAR. Reviewing prior reports. Understanding how reported figures are derived. Preparing documentation and supporting schedules within Excel and Adobe tools.

Systems & Technical Skills Required Microsoft Excel (primary tool) Preferred Basic SQL knowledge Data Environment Data is stored within a Microsoft SQL Server environment. Queries pull model outputs and financial data into Excel. The team generally focuses more on: Understanding the data Analyzing trends Explaining variances Rather than building complex SQL queries. Example: If a balance changes from $100 to $1,000, the analyst should investigate and explain the reason for the change. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $34.00/hr.
