Position Overview
We are seeking a Project Manager to oversee heavy civil construction projects from pre-construction planning through final completion. This role is responsible for managing project scope, schedule, budget, contract administration, subcontractor coordination, and overall project execution while ensuring safety, quality, and client satisfaction remain top priorities.
The successful candidate will serve as a key link between office and field teams, helping ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with all contract requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
Lead projects from contract handoff through closeout, ensuring successful execution of all project requirements.
Review project scope, contract documents, and project objectives with Operations and Estimating teams.
Maintain a thorough understanding of contract requirements and ensure compliance across project teams and subcontractors.
Lead project kickoff, pre-construction, progress review, and closeout meetings.
Foster strong relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Scheduling, Budgeting & Cost Control
Develop and maintain project schedules, including client updates and milestone tracking.
Establish project budgets and cost codes for ongoing financial management.
Prepare cost-to-complete forecasts and monitor project financial performance.
Review project costs, identify risks, and proactively address budget impacts.
Coordinate payment applications, invoice approvals, and monthly owner billing.
Contract Administration
Manage RFIs, submittals, contract documentation, and project records.
Coordinate bonds, insurance requirements, and other contractual obligations.
Collaborate with estimating teams to price, negotiate, and execute change orders.
Identify and document changing site conditions and ensure proper contractual notification procedures are followed.
Team & Field Coordination
Partner with Superintendents and field teams to support successful project execution.
Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor activities.
Communicate project schedules, resource needs, and operational priorities across teams.
Review field reporting for production, payroll, materials, and equipment utilization.
Help maximize operational efficiency while maintaining project quality and safety standards.
Leadership & Development
Support the development and mentorship of Field Engineers, Project Engineers, and Assistant Project Managers.
Participate in performance evaluations, career development, and team-building efforts.
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
QualificationsRequired
Bachelor's degree.
5+ years of construction project management experience, preferably within heavy civil construction.
Experience managing projects through all phases, from pre-construction through closeout.
Strong understanding of construction operations, project controls, and contract administration.
Experience managing RFIs, submittals, schedules, budgets, and change orders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Preferred
Heavy civil construction project experience.
Experience with cost coding, budgeting, and cost forecasting.
Knowledge of construction scheduling methods and project controls.
Experience managing subcontractors, procurement activities, and material purchasing.
Demonstrated success leading project meetings and coordinating cross-functional teams.
Experience mentoring and developing project engineering staff.

Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Cary, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
