Your Key Responsibilities
As an Analyst in the State Income Tax practice, you will provide a variety of tax consulting, planning, and compliance services to a diverse range of clients operating in various sectors. Our state income tax practice is constantly evolving, and it's here you'll find everything you need to grow as we do. It's all about taking on new skills and responsibilities as they arise and making the most of our dedicated mentors and training programs.
We'll look to you to apply your knowledge to a wide range of tax areas and processes, devising strategic outcomes to some very complex issues. In return, you can expect the support of some of the most engaging colleagues around, as well as plenty of opportunities to progress your career.
You will oversee state-level tax projects, including state tax planning (e.g., internal legal entity restructurings), state tax controversy (e.g., state audit assistance, state private letter rulings), and related research. You will also be responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing multiple state tax services for clients.
Skills and attributes for success
To qualify for the role, you must have:
Actively working towards obtaining either an LL.M. in Taxation or Juris Doctor, supported by a strong academic record.
Membership or anticipated membership in a US state bar.
Ability to analyze data, research tax technical guidance, and communicate findings to engagement teams.
Ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
An interest working in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs.
Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver's license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.
You must reside within a commutable distance of the office location associated with this position.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employer sponsorship, now and in the future.
Ideally, you will have:
An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
Cumulative law school GPA of 3.0 or above.
Understanding of federal and state income tax code, regulations, and procedures.
Tax technical skills and experience in tax research, writing, and compliance.
Knowledge of how to leverage firm-approved AI tools in a business setting, including Microsoft Copilot.

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $85,000 - $125,000. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
Under our flexible vacation policy, you'll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances.
