Job Title: Entry Level Accountant
Job Description
This accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of store cash reporting and related accounting activities. In this hybrid role, you review and correct cash reports, resolve accounting exceptions and customer service cases, prepare journal entries, and collaborate with multiple accounting and operational teams. This position offers exposure to a wide range of accounting functions and provides strong long-term career growth opportunities within a large, complex organization.
Responsibilities
Review daily and periodic Cash Reports from stores and make corrections as needed to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Resolve and close C01 exceptions by identifying issues, making appropriate corrections, and documenting resolutions.
Resolve and close Remedy cases related to Accounting Customer Service inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Verify that all Cash Reports are closed by each store and fully processed prior to month-end close to support accurate financial reporting.
Prepare journal entries as needed to record cash, revenue, and related accounting transactions in accordance with established procedures.
Collaborate with Car Wash, Credit Card, Lottery, Money Orders, Commission Fuels, Gas Accounting, and Sales Tax groups to research and resolve discrepancies.
Work closely with Market Managers and Field Consultants to address store-level issues, clarify processes, and support compliance with cash handling and reporting standards.
Perform research and analysis to investigate variances, reconcile accounts, and support the resolution of complex audit and accounting issues.
Utilize Excel and other Microsoft Office applications to analyze data, create reports, and maintain documentation.
Communicate clearly and professionally in writing and verbally with internal stakeholders to explain findings, corrections, and recommendations.
Handle special duties and projects as assigned, contributing to continuous improvement of sales audit and accounting processes.
Essential Skills
Strong math aptitude with the ability to perform accurate calculations and reconcile financial data.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with pivot tables, formulas, and formatting.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook for documentation and professional communication.
Solid understanding of accounting concepts such as debits and credits, cash application, invoicing, coding, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchase orders, and general finance principles.
Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify issues, and propose solutions.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills for interacting with accounting teams, field personnel, and other stakeholders.
Ability to work as a self-starter and perform independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks.
Previous experience analyzing data in an accounting or finance @context.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Experience using Excel for data analysis, reporting, and reconciliation in a professional environment.
Experience conducting research to resolve accounting or audit discrepancies.
Interest in building a long-term career in accounting with opportunities for growth and advancement.
Industry-specific experience in retail, convenience stores, or multi-location operations is beneficial.
Work Environment
This role operates in a hybrid work environment, with in-office work on Tuesdays and Thursdays and remote work on the remaining three days each week. You support a large network of convenience store locations that operate around the clock, contributing to a fast-paced and dynamic accounting environment. The facilities are modern office settings where you primarily work with standard office technology, including computers and Microsoft Office applications, to review financial data and prepare documentation. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irving, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
